APS Athletics Carnival

On Monday, we had our annual APS Senior Athletics Carnival, and it was great to see everyone getting involved and enjoying the event. Congratulations to all students for their efforts and achievements.

I would also like to thank all those who volunteered their time to support this event, we truly appreciate it.

In the coming weeks, students who have qualified for the next round of Athletics will receive further information. The next round is scheduled to be held at Meadowglen International Athletics Track on the 26th of August.

For those interested in the district team selection process, please review the following:

Age Categories at District, Division, Regional and State Levels:

  • 9/10 girls and boys (students born in 2014, 2015)
  • 11 girls and boys (students born in 2013)
  • 12/13 girls and boys (students born in 2011,2012)

Qualifying:

  • A maximum of one girl and boy may be entered in each age category/event for 100m, 200m, Hurdles and High Jump.
  • A maximum of two girls and boys may be entered in each age category/event for 800m, 1500m, Shot Put, Discus and Long Jump
  • Students can only compete in two events (not including the relay)

Selection:

  • The team is selected based on students with the fastest times/distances from the APS Athletics carnival.
  • At the APS Athletics Carnival, students competed in their year level groups and there were multiple heats so although they may have placed and received a ribbon on the day, they may not progress to the next round. This is because it is the fastest times from the age categories not year levels. Please note the reason the APS Athletics carnival is structured differently is because the focus is on fun and participation, and it allows students to run with their peers.
  • Students who qualify for more than two events are given the choice as to which events they would like to compete in. Remaining spots are filled with the next students based on times and distances.
  • 4x100m teams are the top four fastest 100m runners in each age category.
