The Foundation Team: Communicators

This week, our Foundation Team share with us how they represent the learner profile attribute Communicators.

Our confident communicators Ainslie McArthur, Macalie Vlah, Samantha Hanks and Lana Harris love to share, collaborate, listen and coach!

As communicators we are:

Expressing our thoughts, ideas and learning in many different ways. We are confident communicators who respect each other, listen actively and value the contributions of everyone. We work together and collaborate, using communication skills to build positive working relationships and extend our own and our students' learning.

I am a communicator when:

… I collaborate! I love to share and listen to ideas, reflect and work together with my team to plan amazing learning experiences for our Foundation students. Collaborating is the key to our success and one of my favourite parts of being a teacher.

- Macalie Vlah

… I coach! I coach teams to play basketball and communicate skills, drills and concepts in a way that makes sense, is fun and engaging, and ultimately helps the team improve. I need to listen to the goals and ideas of individual players, assistant coaches, parent community, and communicate respectfully with game officials.

- Lana Harris

… I share! I always love to hear the many ideas of my colleagues and students, as well as expressing my own thoughts and opinions as a teacher and lifelong learner. I give others space to have their thoughts and ideas heard in a safe and inclusive environment. I encourage all learners to be brave and connected as we listen and celebrate the voices of everyone.

- Ainslie McArthur

… I actively listen! I ensure I listen to my colleagues, students and parents with an empathetic and open mind. Ensuring that I hear and understand the perspectives and ideas of each speaker. I allow others time to have a voice and express their thoughts, feelings and point of view. I show my active listening skills by making eye contact and using positive body language so others feel heard and valued.

- Samantha Hanks

Students in Foundation are fabulous communicators when:

… they speak, listen, write, draw, share, respond, discuss, ask, reflect, learn, explore, play and feel confident and valued in their learning space! Here are our Foundation communicators in action:
