Performing Arts

Hi Everyone!

This is the first newsletter from me, Lindi De Angelis! I’m so excited to teach Performing Arts to your children. I love Dance and Drama and I look forward to sharing my passion for theatre with all the students at Essendon North Primary School.

During Week One, I was fortunate enough to have a handover week with Mina Stephens who is on maternity leave now. It was wonderful to team teach with her in the first week and learn all the ins and outs of the Performing Arts space. We wish her all the best for her and her family during this exciting time!

Each year level has started a new unit of Drama this term (except Year Six, please see below):

Foundation

This term, Foundation students will be learning about how to use body movements, facial expressions, gestures and their voices to create a Drama performance. They have been very enthusiastic and keen about this new experience called Performing Arts!

Year One and Two

Year One and Two students have started their unit about Fairytales. In the first two weeks they have learnt how to create powerful freeze frames. Even though they have to be completely still during a freeze frame, they have to use their body language and facial expression to express what their character is doing at a certain moment in the fairytale.

Here are some photos of their powerful freeze frames, using low, middle and high levels.

Year Three and Four

Year Three and Four students are doing a unit of Short Stage Plays. During this unit they will read various scripts and decide which one they would like to perform. They will organise the elements of drama to shape a play and communicate their story to an audience.

Year Five

Year Five students have been building their Clowning unit where they are learning about how to incorporate melodrama, mime, slapstick and audience interaction to create their own Clowning Routines. They will perform to some of the younger classes in the school by the end of the term!

Year Six

Year Six students have been working very hard on their Clowning Routines and finally performed it during Week Three! They designed their own props, chose their costumes and then performed it to some of the Foundation students who were very receptive and helpful audience members! Well done Year Sixes!

Here are some captured moments from their performances:
