Year Two
Potato Olympics
On Monday students brought in potatoes and turned them into Potathletes!
They decorated their own Potathlete using different colours and craft items to make it unique and represent a country of their choice.
Students measured and weighed their Potathletes and gave them a name. Some of them even had a flag to wave.
On Monday afternoon, all of the Year Two and Year Four students took their Potathletes down to the gym to participate in the opening ceremony. Students grouped themselves according to countries in alphabetical order and then did a lap of the gym, showing off their Potathletes. There was music and so much cheering!
Throughout the week, the Potathletes participated in a variety of Olympic sports such as Javelin, Sprint, Dance, Weight Lifting, Target Roll and a Potato and Spoon race!
They had three attempts at each sport and then students had to use their additive thinking skills to add their scores together and compare them with a Potathlete from another country.
Congratulations to all the Potathletes for competing!
