Principal's Message
Wawa, Wominjika.
Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin nation.
We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community. We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us.
We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.
Athletics sports
Our Year 3 - 6 students are very excited about our House Athletics Sports on Monday, no doubt taking the focus away from the Paris Olympic Games.
James Roche and the students have been practising hard for several weeks in the build up to the Aths Sports and we look forward to a fantastic, fun-filled day.
Students on oval
Jen McCann and I shared a great conversation earlier this week about the students who play on the oval during recess and lunch breaks. On most days there can be up to 10 games of football and/or soccer being played simultaneously with students from every year level. On occasions, there can be up to 80 students using the oval at the one time. What is most impressive is how the students play so cooperatively and supportively, readily making adjustments for younger students and showing care and consideration for others. It’s a huge credit to each of them and a pleasure to watch.
Building works
The building works are continuing to progress slowly, The office has now been restored and is accessible via the doors at the main entrance. The focus will now move to the staffroom, kitchen garden room, STEM room and 4RR and 4NH classes. During next week, 4RR will be relocated to the spare classroom adjacent to the office. 4NH will be relocated to the open area of C Wing (the Year 6 area). We will continue to update you as the works progress.
Student access
Students have been reminded that they should use the allocated entries to access their classrooms. Specifically, they should not enter via the front office area unless they are required to sign in for late arrival.
Long Service Leave
I will be on leave for the next two weeks, returning to work on Monday August 12th. Jen McCann (Mondays - Thursdays) and Clare Murray (Fridays) will be filling the Acting Principal role in my absence.
Kind regards
Duncan
