Foundation News
Our Foundation students returned to school this term, full of excitment as they counted down to our 100th day of school. During this count down, we have continued with our usual Literacy and Numeracy activities, as well as exploring 'Our Personal History and Families' during integrated learning sessions.
On Tuesday 30th July, we celebrated this special milestone with a small ceremony and an amazing party. It was wonderful to see our parent community joining us for this special occasion, as Mrs Mauger and our school leaders, presented our Foundation students with a certificate and their own medal. Students enjoyed dressing up as 100 year old people and brought a plate of food to share with their friends. It was an amazing day and everyone had a terrific time!
3/4 News
We have been busy in the 3/4 classes learning all about Recycling and how different materials can be reused to make something else. We have been learning the process of how rubbish is collected, sorted and treated to be reused.
On Wednesday 31st July, 83 students excitedly travelled to Gundiwindi Lodge, Silvan. Students were able to experience a variety of new activites such as the Giant Swing, Flying Fox, Damper Cooking, Archery, Initiatives and Low Ropes course. Many students were able to attempt activites for the first time and were so proud of their achievements. It was lovely to see students encouraging each other to have a go and persisting at tasks that were a little difficult. All students were able to assist setting up for a meal with the Gundiwindi staff. They had to set the table, clear the table, scrape the plates and help dry the dishes. After a full two days of activities, students had a ride on Puffing Billy from Belgrave through to Lakeside, Emerald. We had a lovely picnic lunch and were treated to seeing a very cheeky kookaburra who felt he should share a sandwich with us. A great time was had by all.
A very big thank-you to the staff that gave up their time to ensure the students had the best possible time while they were away.
5/6 News
We have had a busy start to Term 3 in the Senior School. As well as our usual Literacy and Numeracy activities, this semester, we are also learning about Physical Science concepts, learning all about the Australian Government in our Civics and Citizenship unit and have really enjoyed watching and learning about the Olympic Games in Paris. Just to make sure we are extra busy, we have also been preparing for our school concert, 'Wildlife Adventure', which will be held at the Cardinia Cultural Centre in Pakenham on the 4th and 5th of September (we hope you are coming to watch us perform and have bought your tickets already!!)
At the end of Term 2, our Year 5/6 students participated in a Lightning Premiership Competition for their winter inter-school sports. Students played either A.F.L., Soccer, Netball or T-ball and although we didn't have any overall wins on the day, we all enjoyed a chance to play a round robin competition against other schools. P.H.P.S. also held their House Athletics Carnival at the end of Term 2 and we were lucky to have a lovely sunny day to run, jump, hop and throw. Those students who performed well in each event for their age group have been invited to join the team that will represent P.H.P.S. at the District Athletics event at the end of August. We also have a group of 5/6 students who will be playing basketball in Warragul in early August as part of the 'Hoop Time' competition. We wish those students luck for this tournament.
