SCHOOL OF POSSIBILITIES
Year 10 Formal Update
Year 10 students have begun practicing for formal! The first dance practice went incredibly well. It seems the two left feet mostly belong to the staff helping. Well done to the students. Practice will continue now on a weekly basis, leading up to the big night.
Year 12 - Elevate
Elevate Education will visit the College on Tuesday 20 August to offer two workshops to our Year 12 VCE students on 'Memory Mnemonics' and 'The Finishing Line. VCE-VM students are welcome to attend if they want to build some exam-taking skills.
Meet Tessa
Our HHD students would like you to meet Tessa. She is our new St Anne’s Baby. Her due date is early next week. She will weigh approximately 3.5kgs and will be 51cm long. The students will be responsible for caring for her and meeting all of her needs. They will need to feed her, change her, burp her and rock her so she will be content and sleep. Stay tuned for more information and snaps once she arrives.
Year 12 VM
𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞
The Year 12 VM students must complete a community project as part of the course in Unit 4. The students are required to do all the planning, carry out the project and then evaluate it. The students are working on two different projects. Izzy, Emily, Megan, Cara and Millie decided to organise care packages for the homeless and will be in contact with agencies in Shepparton to see what the need is. They initially decided to ask the school community for donations to put in the care packs. After looking at the pros and cons of this, the students decided they should try and raise the funds themselves to purchase products for the care packs.
Last Thursday the students made rocky road slice, cup cakes, brownie slices and choc chip cookies with all items costing $2 each. The bake sale was well supported by the student body and staff alike. Students sold all the items made and the total amount of over $400 will go to this cause.
The next fundraiser will be selling nachos and HSPs on 29 August. The students are hoping they can at least match the $400 or more so they can provide as much as possible to those in need. Stay tuned for more information coming out next week about details, costs and how to order.
A special thanks to Rhonda and Jacqui for all the work they put in to make the event successful and their support of the students.
Reminder - uniform
Can we please ask all parents to ensure your student has the full academic uniform. No rugby tops or soft shell tops are to be worn on academic uniform days. All students are expected to wear a navy knitted school jumper and a blazer. A number of families and students have not purchased blazers and this will be reinforced next year as this is a compulsory part of our uniform. Please either layby a Blazer and pay it off or take the opportunity to ask one of the Year 12 students if they would like to sell you their Blazer second-hand. Full black lace up shoes are also required.
50 Days of School Left! - PJ Day
Tuesday marked 50 days left until the last day of classes for our first ever cohort of Year 12's. Can you believe how fast this school year has gone?!
Graduation is a monumental milestone in a person’s life, and for us as a college these are our first across that line. What better way to celebrate than with a PJ day!
Year 11 Biology Camp
Preparations are underway for the Year 11 Biology Camp. This camp takes place from 26-27 August 2024. This camp is a requirement for all students to attend as it forms part of the Year 11 Biology course. The purpose of the trip is to gather first-hand data for their scientific investigation. Parents/carers will receive further information regarding the requirements that must be completed ahead of the camp. Please ensure you read this information and fill out the appropriate forms. Please support your child to complete the tasks required to prepare for camp.
Hume Field Hockey Tournament
A group of senior girls attended the Hume Field Hockey Tournament in Albury on Friday last week. Congratulations for the girls for showing amazing sportsmanship and working together as a team.
Year 12 Physical Education
The Year 12 PE class headed to Aquamoves again to participate in a GRIT session with Scotty. The group performed many plyometric exercises at high intensity over 25 minutes with little recovery. The students' heart rates were up and they had shaky legs afterwards but lots of fun was had by all!
The intensity continued at Aquamoves this week when the Year 12 PE class participated in a High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) session which went for 30 minutes with bouts of intense work followed by recovery. The students worked hard and enjoyed this one!
Year 12 Physics
Beam me up!
Troy’s Unit 4 Physics class participated in a hazy, colourful practical last Thursday, where they used a smoke machine to show that light can behave like both waves and particles. Students were fully engaged, joining in the fun, as they filled the room with smoke to visualise the wave-like behaviour and showed that different coloured lasers (different energies of photons) will charge up glow-in-the dark material to visualise particle behaviour.
‘Hey Troy, this is the coolest prac I’ve ever done!’ - for a teacher, this is what it's all about.
VTAC Information Session
Our inaugural Year 12s kicked off the first exciting step in planning their post-school study journey when they attended a VTAC session at the college last week. Students were taken through the VTAC application process and given additional resources to take home and share with parents.
The key date for timely VTAC applications is Friday 20 September. Year 12 students are encouraged to book a careers appointment to get further one-on-one assistance if needed.
Congratulations to Emily & Charli
Congratulations to Year 12 students Emily Zampaglione and Charli Guppy on their recent Youth Girls grand final played on Sunday, August 4. Unfortunately not the result they were hoping for with Echuca defeating Shepp United 46-27, but their team can be proud of a great game and fantastic season making it all the way to the grand final! Well done girls.

VCE Unit 4 Classes and Student Free Days in Term 3
To support students in Unit 4 VCE studies during Term 3, all Unit 4 classes will continue on the three student free days: Monday 15 July, Friday 23 August and Friday 20 September. It is an expectation students studying a Unit 4 class will attend all Unit 4 classes on these days. Students with individual studies first thing in the morning or at the end of the day are permitted to come late or leave early, as long as they sign in and out at the office. Students are permitted to come in casual dress on these days.
