Reflection
August 11 - Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B
Last Sunday we reflected on how God satisfied the hunger of those seeking physical and spiritual nourishment by providing mana from heaven and the ‘Bread of Life’ through the Eucharist. Through partaking in this Eucharist our lives are transformed, we acknowledge the place of Christ in our lives and the importance of Christ’s teachings.
This Sunday we continue our faith journey, considering the gift of the Eucharist as Christ's promise of everlasting life.
Christ teachings giving us light in our world, they draw us closer to God and a promise of life everlasting. Christ through his love and sacrifice on the cross, is the living bread providing for us light and life in the world today. Just as Christ was the guiding light for St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, whose feast day we celebrated on Thursday 8 August, we shoulder our Crosses in the understanding that Christ teachings, Christ’s example of love, give us strength, guidance and the ability to love those most in need of our compassion. May we bear our cross as St Mary of the Cross MacKillop did, with love and mercy as we share God’s love with all around us each day.
