Advisory Council Report
St Annes Advisory Council met on Thursday 1 August for the Term 3, week 3, formal meeting. Discussions that took place included:
- The recently announced $3.6 million dollars of funding the college has been successful in securing for the Stage 4A works, which will take place towards the east end of the school. Discussions took place on when the funds will become available and when that will mean works may begin, and what facilities this will account for.
- The currently in place Stage 3A building works at the west end which is progressing at a great pace and we hope to be able to access at the beginning of next year. These spaces will be utilised for the senior year levels' studies in areas such as wood, metal, fabric and robotic works.
- Alongside the Stage 3A building works allowances for extra parking are coming along with the hope that we may even be utilising them around November this year.
- We spoke about the possibility of fundraising for additional facilities around the school and tabled it for further research and discussion at our next workshop.
- The school received the results of our VRQA review, with there being full compliance across all aspects of the audit. Requirements were all either met or exceeded which is a great testament to the hard work the college's administration team put into preparing what is required to tick the many, many boxes involved.
- The financial statements were presented and discussion ensued on where any variances to budget may have come from.
- NAPLAN results are in and have been communicated with parents. Well done to all the students who took part. We were presented with the statistics on how St Anne's fared against other schools and students have done themselves proud. The NAPLAN results have been more timely than before.
- We reflected on the success of recent events at the school, such as the St Anne's Feast Day and Stage 2B Opening Ceremony
- We welcomed David Quinn to the Advisory Council. David is father of one of our Year 2 students, and already an active member of the St Anne's College community as the coach of the Year 2 ‘St Anne's Strikers’ soccer team. We look forward to his valuable input – welcome to the team!
The St Anne’s College Advisory Council is a team of representatives from the school parent community, St Mel’s Parish, Catholic Education Sandhurst, and St Anne’s Leadership and Administration faculty, brought together through a vision to support the growth of the school and learning outcomes for all those who attend. We aim to provide a voice for the school community and stakeholders.
Advisory Council members volunteer their time to meet formally twice each term with the view to discuss the issues that shape the vision and strategic direction of the college, and to support the work of our Principal, Sue Carroll. We also come together outside of these times where the need arises.
Advisory Council members share a motivation to be involved in our beautiful College and to support the growth and development of the facilities. Whilst there is no requirement to have a specific skill set, we each have a passion to ensure the best outcomes for the college students.
Members come from a range of backgrounds in the hopes we may represent the school community in a fair and balanced manner. When nominations are open for new members, we welcome nominations from all who feel they could contribute in a meaningful way.
While members don’t have to be of the Catholic faith, we are guided by the college’s Catholic principles and expect members to be supportive of the college’s Catholic identity.
We are an advisory group for the Principal and we are in no way there to make operational changes to the school. Our consultation is sought in the view to provide support and advise in areas of strategic planning and school improvement.
Advisory Council members are elected for a three year term and governed by our Terms of Reference. A member of the parent community resides in both the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson role.
