Term 3, week 2

About this week-

The students have settled back into the term very well. We have been focussing on getting back into the routines we established in our classes at the beginning of the year, with a particular focus on lining up and moving between rooms. We have an enormous week ahead of us with the Walkathon on Thursday and our 100 days of school celebration on Friday. Students will be able dress up in their house colours on Thursday and anything to do with 100 on Friday. In previous years, students have dressed up as old people, hundred dollar bills, hundreds charts or soccer players with the number 100.

Literacy-

We finished going through the alphabet last term and celebrated this with Milo’s BIrthday Surprise. This was an amazing day where the students all looked amazing. We revised this in week 1 and in week 2 we introduced double letters and the end of one syllable words. The double letters were ss, ll and ff.  We used the sayings up the hill, what a mess and huff and puff to help us remember these.

Numeracy-

In week 1 we learnt about ordinal numbers. This involved lots of hands-on activities and races with objects to decide their finishing order. We have been and will be working on teen numbers in week 2 and 3.

Inquiry-

Our inquiry topic this term is ‘Why are places important to people?’ So far, we have talked about places that are important to us and what makes a home.
