Whole School Disco - Friday 25th July

Our school disco took place on Friday and it was a huge success, with students showcasing their best dance moves and having fun with their friends. DJs Smith and Arnold played a perfect mix of songs, while teachers and parents kept things running smoothly. The night was filled with fun and community spirit, creating lasting memories for all involved.

Scotsburn Parent Meeting - Tonight (Tuesday 30th July)

A reminder that tonight we will be holding our Scotsburn Parent Meeting. The meeting will take place in the Old Building at Scotsburn, at 6:30pm.

This has been quite a while in the making, allowing us to have an active working parent community, looking at all things to do with Scotsburn, including fundraising, events, ideas and celebrations. It will also provide a great opportunity to regularly catch up as a parent group outside of school hours. Where possible, a member of Scotsburn staff will be present to relay information and be part of the discussions.

Thank you to Kylie Smith for her coordination of this meeting. We hope to see as many parents there as possible.

Concert Update

Our concert item is certainly coming together, and we are all very excited with how it is looking. Students are doing an amazing job practising both at school and at home, however we are keeping the entire act under wraps - we would love it to be a big sunrise for our parents at the event!

At our parent meeting tonight, we will be further discussing any help and volunteering that we require leading up to and at the performances. For those who are unable to attend, we will send out some minutes and further information after tonight.

A reminder to parents to get in quickly to book your concert tickets!  As mentioned in Bernie’s section, well over 500 tickets of a possible 1300 tickets to the evening performances had already sold, so get in quickly to avoid disappointment. Families are able to purchase up to 5 tickets in total for evening performances and unlimited tickets for the Thursday Matinee.  The Thursday Matinee is a great option for grandparents and extended family members.

Apologies for those that got in very early and encountered a few glitches in the system, but the online booking system is now working as intended.

By the end of this week, we hope to have an information booklet ready to distribute to all families.  That will have all of the information you need in the one place.  Keep and eye out for this and then feel free to send any questions through as they pop up.

Parent Survey

On Friday parents and carers received an invitation to participate in a Parent/Guardian Survey via Compass.  We’d really appreciate you spending the time to complete that survey if you are selected.

The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year, the Parents and Caregiver Opinion Survey will close on Friday August 30.

Surveys are conducted online, and only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

The survey can be accessed here https://www.orima.com.au/parent

All parents / caregivers / guardians at your school use the same six-digit PIN to access the survey.

Our school's generic PIN for the SCOTSBURN CAMPUS is: 252303

*Please note, there is a separate PIN for the Buninyong Campus. Buninyong families have received a different Compass notification

Prep 100 Days of Learning/Olympic Day - Wednesday 7th August

Next Wednesday at Scotsburn we will be celebrating our 2024 Preps with their 100th day at school! This will be a wonderful celebration for the whole campus. On the same day, we will also be holding an olympic-themed day, having a focus on “Scotsburn Champions”. Students will be able to come dressed in something referring to being ‘100 years old’ or Olympic-themed for a fun day of celebrations.

This week in Lunchtime Club, Margie has coordinated with our students a banner to send along to the upcoming Paralympics, for a past Buninyong Primary School student, Sam Rizzo. Students are very excited to send this off to wish him well, as well as follow his progress at the Games. Go Sam!

Scotsburn Day at Buninyong Campus - Thursday 8th August

Next Thursday (August 8), all students and staff at the Scotsburn Campus will be relocating to the Buninyong Campus for the day. This is due to the Young Authors’ Program using the campus for the day for their second workshop. We are really excited to show off our beautiful campus to a program that will be inviting students from a range of schools across the Ballarat region.

This will mean that drop off and pick up next Thursday will be at Buninyong. We will be running our normal program including specialist classes with Ms Middlin out of learning spaces at Buninyong, with us also hopeful of making use of the library. For those catching the bus, normal bus arrangements will apply from the Buninyong Campus. We will meet everyone in the courtyard at Buninyong at 8:45am.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

It has been another fantastic week in SC1! We have made some great progress in learning the music and choreography for our concert, and it is looking absolutely fantastic. We will continue to communicate lots of information regarding the concert in newsletters and Compass so please remember to keep an eye on these communication platforms.

We were lucky enough to have our EcoLink bees incursion on Thursday. The students loved learning all about bees and experimenting with pollen collection using different materials. Can you guess which materials were the most effective? Cotton wool and small balloons!

In Spelling this week we have been focusing on the /ow/ sound, which is made by the <ou> and <ow> spellings. Our super spellers have been doing an amazing job every day, going above and beyond to extend themselves in their learning.

We wanted to say a huge congratulations to our hardworking students - almost everyone returned their homework and reader this week! We know that this can only be achieved with lots of family support, and we are so grateful for your efforts. Thank you!

With the weather being extremely cold and windy at the moment, please remember to pack a jacket and a warm hat with your child. When it is too cold and wet to go outside, students will remain inside with activities provided in the classroom or in Lunchtime Club.

As always, if you have any questions, please come in and see us.

Have a great week.

SC2 Learning Snapshot

Well there is definitely a buzz going on in SC2 at the moment! With Concert practice and Olympics intertwined with our regular learning program, there sure is lots for the students to get excited about. We have been really getting into the Olympic spirit, having a particularly strong focus on the themes of unity, personal best, cooperation and persistence.

In Reading and Writing we have continued to develop our skills in understanding and creating information texts, using our theme of Natural Disasters as a starting point. Students have also practised their inferring skills whilst reading their levelled texts, making particular inferences about characters’ feelings and emotions.

In Maths we have continued to combine the topics of Money and Probability, whilst also maintaining our structure of practising our number skills through our daily review work. The sense of achievement and mastery that we are witnessing with this structure has been so pleasing to see.

A huge congratulations to everyone with their homework and home reading. We have started the term on a high, with almost all students completing homework and home reading. Keep up the incredible work everyone!!!

Thanks again to everyone involved in our SC2 family, we certainly have made an awesome start to the term.

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
