Alternate Programs

Dan Garner - Assistant Principal Alternate Programs

Thank you to everyone who attended parent-teacher interviews last week. It was wonderful to see so many productive conversations about the progress our students are making. We are very excited for what's to come over the rest of this year, and excited with the growth students are showing.

It is that time of year where we need to be thinking about student plans for 2025. These conversations begin occurring at parent teacher interviews, but if you have any questions about possible programs for your child next year, please reach out to discuss with the team. This is particularly important if you have a desire to transition back to main campus schooling.

Finally, a big thank you to the McKenzie Creek staff for their celebration of principal's day. The paper chain they made will take pride of place in my office.

McKenzie Creek - Term 3

Welcome Chris!

During week 3, we were able to welcome another student to McKenzie Creek, Chris has arrived from Murtoa and has made a positive first impression. Thank you to the Creekers for making Chris feel welcomed!

Student Absences

If your student will be absent, it would be great if you could notify Ben or Ronnie via SMS or a phone call.

Staff contacts

Ben M - 0475 830 907

Ronnie - 0458 304 615

Both Ben & Ronnie will be available Monday & Wednesday afternoons from 2pm to 3:30pm, the rest of the time they will be teaching on the Main Campus.

Remember it’s ‘cool to be at school!’

If you’re currently attending 70% of your schooling, over a 5 year period you will miss a total of 1 ½ years. Every day counts!

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thank you to the families who had attended the Parent Teacher Interviews last Tuesday 30 July. We enjoyed meeting with both the students and their families to discuss their progress and plans for the 2025 school year.

It is important to have these conversations nice and early so we can begin to plan and prepare your students for a successful transition to our other Alternate Programs or a possible transition to the main campus.

Hygiene Demonstration

During week 2, Ben was able to squeeze into his old wet suit to complete a demonstration of how to shower as a part of the Health Curriculum on Hygiene and changes that occur during puberty.

The key takeaway messages included to make sure that you’re showering daily, washing from head to toe and that you’re wearing deodorant. We know that as we get older we can get a bit more smelly and not just during the summer or warmer months.

National Principals Day

Last Friday the Creekers had celebrated National Principals Day for our Assistant Principal Dan Garner. To show our appreciation the students had created a D.I.Y scarf with messages of gratitude and appreciation.

On the behalf of the Alternate Programs staff, we thank Dan for all of his hard work and support for staff & students.

Upcoming Dates:

Wednesday 14 August - Snow White Production (no cost) @ Horsham Town Hall

Regards,

The Team @ Creek

BLUE GROUP

Blue group are off to a positive start in term 3. We have been continuing on with a combination of real-life learning teamed with fundamental English and Maths skills. Term 3 has seen a focus on careers looking at different job opportunities and starting to build resumes.

Real life learning also extends to our electives with many great opportunities being organised by Danielle from Centre for Participation. This has included a trip to Promotional Products and Uniforms so far. On a Tuesday we have been fortunate to have had Cindy Francis from Horsham Regional Art gallery organising some workshops at the town hall for us. Today was an augmented reality session with Desiree Cross from Pink Lake creative which blew the students minds! Well done to all students who continue to try their best maintaining the College values in class and through our community activities.
