Year 10 Snow Trip

On Monday 22nd June, 59 students and 8 staff members travelled to the Alzburg Resort in Mansfield for the annual Yr 10 Snow Trip. We were fed very well at the Alzburg Resort enjoying Italian, Mexican and Indian food, as well as a roast for tea during our stay. The students were occupied at the resort by using their games room, indoor pool, spa and sauna and their tennis and basketball courts. Each day, we travelled to Mount Buller by bus and all students learnt new skills when completing their 1.5hr snowboard or ski lesson which were ran by experienced instructors. After their lesson, they would enjoy a delicious lunch at the ABOM restaurant. In the afternoons, the students had free time to explore the mountain to ski or board down different runs. We hope all students enjoyed the trip and made lifelong memories with their friends.

Year 10 Queensland Camp

Students had a fun and adrenaline filled week away in sunny Queensland. It was an early start for 27 Year 10 students and 4 staff but we were all very keen to get to some sunshine and warmer weather.

Once we arrived, we checked into out accommodation at NRMA Treasure Island resort then went and got a late bite to eat at Harbour Town. It was early into bed after a big day of travel and shopping!

On day two, we headed to Movie World where we had lots photos with movie stars, explored the stores and bought Warner Bros movie merch and of course lined up for the rollercoasters! We were so lucky that we didn’t have to line up for long periods of time, if at all!

Day three was a beautiful day at Wet ‘n’ Wild where we got to have fun in the wave pool, explore huge water slides and relax in the spas. Later that evening some of us went back to Harbour town for some more shopping and others stayed back at the resort and enjoyed a hit of tennis, basketball and more time in the pool.

The following day we went to Dreamworld where there was more adrenaline seeker rides, shows, and yummy eats.

On the last day, some of us got up early for a sunrise Beachwalk and acai bowl. After breakfast that morning, we packed up our cabins and suitcases and made our way to our last activity at  Bounce! We headed to the airport and it was goodbye to the warm weather and back to Victoria. We all had a great week away and very proud of how students conducted themselves.

We hope that all students created many new memories with their friends. Big thankyou to our staff, Mr Offer, Jason and Cass for their work support during the week. Planning has already started for next year!

Melbourne Work Experience Trip 2024

This July, ten Horsham College Year 10 students participated in an incredible work experience trip to Melbourne. Students applied to attend this trip and worked hard to secure a placement that interested them and was unavailable to them in Horsham.

We were able to spend the week staying in the Melbourne CBD and attending professional work placements during the day. Students benefitted from work experiences with a range of terrific employers, including law (Ashurst), medical research (Olivia Newton John Cancer Research Institute), architecture (City of Melbourne), business (Salesforce) and Information Technology (Department of Education).

Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience of a week living in the city centre. Catching trains, trams and finding their way around the city was a challenge that the students conquered. Some of the students took advantage of the shopping opportunities, and we were able to explore some different food cultures in the evening with an abundant range available to us.

We were, again, kindly supported by the Boundless Foundation. They assisted us in finding professional work placements and provided financial help for the trip, which covered our accommodation and most meals.

Thank you to the brave students, who took the chance to move out of their comfort zone and explore new opportunities. We all had a terrific time.

Please consider applying for the chance to attend for this valuable Year 10 trip in 2025.

P.A.R.T.Y Program

The year 10 students were fortunate enough to be part of the P.A.R.T.Y program with other Wimmera schools at the Horsham Town Hall last Thursday 2nd August.

The team from the Alfred hospital trauma unit deliver the program which utilises true stories and experiences to show the impact of injury with the message of choice, risk and consequences.

The Alfred shares a common goal with all P.A.R.T.Y. sites and trauma systems throughout Australia: reduce the impact of trauma and burden of injury on society.

The students had insight into the trauma units, physiotherapy post accidents, the burns unit with skin grafts, case studies of youth accidents and a story from a past Alfre patient.

Most students would agree that the story from Jake and sharing in person was the highlight. Jake was on his way to work when he made an error, got distracted for a couple of seconds only while driving which results his car being ran over by a truck.

Jake was very lucky to be treated by the wonderful team at Alfred. It was an amazing story of survival. Jake was 2 weeks away form obtaining his pilot licence, it then took him another 13 years to achieve. Jake has undergone 33 painful surgeries and is limited with mobility but happy to be alive. He reiterated the message of pain he caused his loved ones and decisions made can change outcome for life.

Horsham College would like to thank St Brigid’s College for organising and sponsors West Wind, Horsham Town Hall and Horsham Rural City Council for their support to make this program available for students.
