From the Year 4 Classroom
We have had a fabulous few weeks in Year 4. Who can believe that we are halfway through the term already. Time flies when you are having so much FUN!
In Reading, we have continued learning about the features of poetry. These include Figurative Language, Similes and Metaphors. We have also been exploring the themes and messages in poems, as well as visualising, (creating a picture in our minds), as we read and listen to poetry. We are also continuing to work on our Individual Reading Goals during Authentic Time to help us become stronger readers.
In Writing, we are working hard to become Poets by building our writing skills in the genre of Poetry. We are continuing to put together our digital Poetry Anthologies. Watch this space!!
In Numeracy we have been focusing on:
- Different ways to divide numbers with and without remainders.
- Chance and Data including probability and words such as likely, unlikely, impossible, possible and certain. The students completed some dice activities, guess the playing card, Scissors, Paper or Rock and tried to back a horse to win a race!
- Money and relating this to everyday life. Cash is KING!!!
- Calculating change to the nearest five cents.
Thank you to those who have been helping their child learn their timetables. The improvement in this area has been pleasing to see!!! Keep at it!
In Religion we have continued to explore different Parables Jesus told. It has been great to see the students showing leadership skills by running Prayer on a Friday morning in our space. We attended Parish Mass last Friday. A big WELL DONE to Ethan Savage who read at the Parish Grandparent's Mass a few Saturday nights ago. We are very proud of you.
In Inquiry, we have absolutely loved learning about the 2024 Olympics in Paris. We have done some fabulous research to enhance our learning in this area. Our next unit of learning in Inquiry is Civics and Citizenship.
Book Week is coming!!!
It’s BOOK WEEK in a few weeks. The theme is: READING IS MAGIC!!!!
Book Parade is on Friday 23rd August. Hopefully the costumes are coming along nicely!!!
Congratulations to our Students of the Week
