From the Year 3 Classroom

As we wrap up our Poetry Unit this week, we are excited to announce that our students will be participating in a Year 3 Poetry Slam! This event will be a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their skills in both speaking and listening, as outlined in our curriculum.

To prepare for the Poetry Slam, students have been working diligently on reciting their chosen poems in an engaging and expressive manner. We look forward to seeing the creativity and enthusiasm the students bring.

Beginning next week Reading will focus on Persuasive Text.

After four weeks of hard work, writing various forms of poetry, our students are excitedly publishing their own anthologies.  They are publishing these using Pages and are busy working on their formatting skills changing fonts, font size and colour and adding images and clip art.  They are all keen to bring these home soon and share their writing with their families.

Beginning next week Writing will focus on Persuasive writing for the remainder of the term.

Students have wrapped up their latest topic ‘Transformation and Location’ We have covered; coordinates on a map, directions on a compass, lines of symmetry and slides, turns and flips of shapes and pictures. To complete the unit, students are investigating the skills they have learnt to create a treasure map with hidden treasure. They will swap with a partner to see if their directions were accurate. Our next unit will be ‘Shape’

Reminder to continue practicing Timetables, even those students who have passed.

We have paused our Geography unit for our ‘Mini olympics’ Inquiry. After investigating this year’s Paris games, students were able to select an a topic to research, including:

History of Olympic games

Sport profile

Olympian profile

Mascots over the years

Flags of the Olympics

History of the Olympic rings

Countries that compete in the olympics

Best olympic moments in history

We are continuing our Source of Life Unit, Jesus Models Forgiveness, as many of our Year Three students prepare to make the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
