From the Year 1 Classroom

It's been a busy fortnight in Year 1 with our students enjoying the final weeks of our poetry unit. We've been busy publishing many personal poems and the children are looking forward to sharing them with you all very soon. Performing poems to the class has been a highlight for all, especially performing 'My Kitten Won't Stop Talking' and 'Give Me a Home Amongst the Gum Trees'. Thinking about tone, expression and speed have been our goals when performing and we are so proud of the progress we've seen and the creative actions the children have come up with to match.
Next Friday 23rd August is our 2024 Book Week celebration and the teachers are looking forward to dressing up with our students. We will also be having a school wide Poetry Slam where our students have the opportunity to perform some of their own poems in front of the other year levels.
In Inquiry, we are looking at family trees, discussing terms like aunties, uncles, cousins grandparents, nieces and nephews. We are about to start looking at History and we will soon be visiting the museum in Mulwala. If you have any old fashioned items like telephones, radios, record players or similar, we would love to share them with the students.
