Dear Sacred Heart Families & Friends,
A very warm welcome back to Term 3 to our children and families. It has already been a busy start to the term with lots of great learning opportunities and engaging experiences for our students to enjoy and learn from. Take a moment to read the different sections of our newsletter to get an insight into all that has been happening at Sacred Heart!
WELCOME
I would like to extend a very warm welcome to two people who have joined our Sacred Heart community recently.
Firstly, welcome to Lisa Hibbert who has started working at our school as a Year 4 teacher. Lisa is an experienced teacher who has taught at both Catholic & Government schools and, most recently, Lowther Hall, Essendon. She is very excited to be joining the Sacred Heart school community. Lisa brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience, with a focus on building relationships with the children, supporting students' learning and employing different resources and strategies to engage students and accommodate individual learning needs.
Our new parish priest, Fr Samuel, has spent some time over the past few weeks getting to know our school, staff and children. He visited students and teachers in their classrooms this week, saying hello and chatting. A very warm welcome to you, Fr Samuel. We look forward to getting to know you more over coming weeks and months.
On Wednesday, 31st July we will gather as a school community to farewell our much loved parish priest, Fr Binh, with a celebration of mass. We warmly welcome families to join the staff and students at 9.15am in the church.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations to Kristian (Year 5K educator) and Chelsea on their marriage which they celebrated in their home country of Ireland over the school holiday break. As they embark on their life journey together as husband and wife, we wish them a wonderful life together and a future filled with love and happiness.
CONDOLENCES
Many of you will be aware of a very serious accident that occured at St Margaret Mary's, our parish school, in the last week of Term 2. As a result of a fall, Paul Hogan passed away on Friday, 28th June. Paul had been working at St Margaret Mary's on a casual basis, after retiring as a former long-standing and highly regarded principal of a number of schools in the northern region throughout his career.
On behalf of the Sacred Heart community, I have offered our condolences to Colleen McCambridge, Principal of St Margaret Mary's and dear friend of Paul's, staff and his wife and family. I ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
GRANDPARENT'S DAY
Today we have celebrated Grandparent's Day. It is a special day where we celebrate and show appreciation for our grandparents and their contributions to our families. It also provides an opportunity for their grandchildren, our students, to express their love, respect and gratitude towards their grandparents.
We will have lots of images to share of the day coming soon but here is a glimpse into the happiness and love being experienced today. Thank you to all of our grandparents and special people who came along to be with their grandchild or special little person. So many smiles!
A huge thank you also to Cath Palmer (Leadership Team) who coordinated the event and all of the staff for their support in making the day so special. They really are a wonderful team!
PRESCHOOL STORYTIME
As part of our Prep transition program, our new Preppies for 2025 are invited to join us at Sacred Heart for PreSchool Storytime. The children and parents/carers join Flipsy Flopsy Fairy (aka Andrea) in the library to listen to a story, play games, have fund and make new friends (parents and children alike).
We held our first session last week and it was a jam packed session with lots of laughter.
We can't wait to see our new Preps, their families & other special guests again next week!
PARKING & SAFETY
A reminder to our school community to please ensure our children stay safe and well, especially at drop off and pick up times, by complying with parking regulations around the school. The area immediately outside the school is a drop off zone between 8am - 9.30am and 2.30pm - 4.00pm on school days. Drop-off and pick-up zones allow you to quickly set down and pick up your children, creating a safe environment while keep traffic moving.
We thank you for your cooperation in maintaining student safety at Sacred Heart.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and stay warm!
I remain yours in faith and gratitude,
Kaylene Carlin
