Year 1

An update from Ziggy...

Ziggy, our beloved class pet, has been on a roll with his weekend getaways! Over the past few weeks, he’s explored three different homes, each time making new friends and having exciting experiences. This week, Ziggy is packing his little suitcase again, ready to embark on another adventure. We’ve enjoyed seeing all the creative writing and speaking opportunities this has provided. I wonder who Ziggy will go home with this week?

Migration Stories: Interview

Dear Parents and Families,

We hope this message finds you well.

As part of our Inquiry unit, “Around the World Stories,” we are excited to offer our Year 3/4 children an enriching opportunity to learn about different cultures and experiences. To support this unit, we would like your help in facilitating an interview with someone from your family who has moved to Australia from another country.

Here’s how it will work:

  • Your child will bring home an iPad either this week or next week.
  • The iPad will be used to record the interview with your family who has moved to Australia from another country.
  • Children are asked to use the questions, which were developed in class with the children, to guide their interviews.
  • Please ensure the iPad are returned to school on the following Tuesday.

We ask that the iPads be used just for this recording purpose. Kindly refrain from using them for games or other activities to ensure they remain in good condition for all children.

Thank you for your support  in making this learning experience both meaningful and memorable for our children.

If you have any questions or need further information, please let us know.

Thank you

Denise & Antoniette

The questions are as follow:

  • What country did you come from?
  • How old were you when you came to Australia?
  • What year did you come to Australia?
  • How did you travel to Australia? Did you come straight to Australia or to another country first?
  • Did you want to move to a new country?
  • Can you explain the reason why you came / moved to Australia?
  • Was there a major event in your country of birth? What was it? What happened?
  • How many people came with you to Australia?
  • Who were the people that came with you to Australia?
  • Do you still have family in your home country (country they came from)? Why did they not come to Australia too?
  • How did you feel when you arrived? Can you explain what you thought of Australia when you first came? Has this changed now?
  • Did you work in your birth country? When you came to Australia did you do the same job?
  • What was your favourite memory of your country of birth?
  • How is Australia different from  _________?

Year 5/6

Student Wellbeing

Last week the staff spent a Professional Development day on the area of Wellbeing. A really successful day of learning, facilitated by our Wellbeing Leader, Kate. We shared strategies and programs being taught in classes across the school, as well as looking at a whole school strategy used throughout each school day, known as Brain Breaks

The spinner decides.....
What's your favouritre letter of the alphabet?

In Year 5/6 we use an online spinner to decide what activity we are doing for our brain breaks. Whatever letter of the alphabet is chosen. the students follow the instruction. It's a great break from our work.

We believe that brain breaks are important because......

# it gives you a chance to renew your mind and refocus on your work ~ Veer

# they relieve our stress from our work ~ Fortunato

# it's fun! ~ Alex

# it clears our mind and breaks up the work ~ Roman

# it helps get our mind off everything!  ~ Yianna

The Olympic Games

As the 2024 Paris Olympic Games draw to a close, we reflect on the work done by students in 5/6. Students were asked to choose a country, an athlete and what that athlete was famous for in the Olympics. So great to learn about champions from around the world, both past and present.
