Premier's Reading Challenge

How are you travelling with your 'Premier's Reading Challenge?' Remember we're endeavouring to instil the motto, "The more you read, the more you will know" The challenge ends on September 8th, so keep up with the reading everyone!

Creating Digital Solutions for our Learning

The students have been focusing on interactive ways to share their learning. Some are creating interactive slide decks and thinking about the user experience when creating their digital designs. We've been using the Thinglink website to share what we have learnt about various Australian authors. Whilst others are exploring how they can share their learning using the Storyjumper website. This week, during library, we were visited by Simon Collier, an educational consultant from ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority). We will be working alongside Simon to create rich, authentic assessment tasks that will be posted on the ACARA website to assist other educators. Simon was very impressed with the high level of engagement that the students demonstrated and is looking forward to positive outcomes from this process.

We've been adding to our list of digital resources to support our learning. Students have continued to engage with StoryJumper and are excited about generating their own Fairy Tales online. Senior students are exploring platforms that will enable them to deepen their research.

Term 3 is an exciting term for Book Lovers all over Australia. The annual Children's Book Council of Australia, Book Week celebrations begin on Saturday August through to Friday August 23. The CBCA judges books under various catergories. We've been discovering the six short listed Picture Story Books during library sessions and we will vote for our favourite to align with the announcement of the Book of the Year on August 17.

A theme is selected for each year and this year the theme is 'Reading is Magic'.

As part of our school's celebration of books, we will be having a whole school celebration, on Wednesday August 21st, with a magician to visit us on Thursday August 22nd.

Students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character, or favourite book or something related to the theme. More information to follow over the next few weeks.

We've been reading the six shortlisted Picture Story Books during library sessions and we will vote to chose Sacred Heart's Picture Book of the Year. Our winner will be announced during Book Week celebrations. The video below highlights the shortlisted books.

A friendly reminder that Library Bags must be brought to each library session to return and borrow books!
