Debaters Association of Victoria Regional Debating Day at TPPS
Last Tuesday, our very talented debating teams competed in the Regional Debating Day hosted by TPPS. Two other local schools attended the day and undertook three different debates. The topics for the debates were:
- That we should lower the voting age to 12 years old.
- That we should ban blind boxes. (e.g. Pop Mart)
- That movies are better than books or that all primary school students should play a team sport (secret topics).
The first two debate topics were provided to the students before the event. The third topics were secret topics that were not revealed to the students until one hour before the debate.
Our debating teams did extremely well with TPPS 3 (Navya, Chanumi, Anmol and Abby) winning all three debates. We also had multiple 'Best Speaker' awards presented to our students. This included Navya receiving the highest average score for the entire day!
Congratulations to our debating teams for doing such an amazing job against very talented opposition. We do hope that our debaters have loved their first opportunity to participate in a formal debate and choose to pursue this in their future schooling at secondary school and university.

Grade 2 News
On Thursday 22nd of May, our Grade 2s had an amazing day exploring Schwerkolt Cottage in Mitcham as part of their Inquiry topic ‘How Has Life Changed Over Time?’
The kids looked fantastic dressed up as children from the past and enjoyed experiencing the olden days. They explored the old stone cottage and surrounding gardens, spotting and sketching Indigenous plants along the way. Students were fascinated by how different life used to be - how people collected water, cooked meals, and did the washing. In the museum, they examined old telephones, clothing, teacups, and more.
A favourite part of the day was playing olden-day games like hopscotch and quoits. We were so proud of how well they represented our school and displayed our school values throughout the day! A big thank you to our parent helpers who came along and made the experience a success for the children.
Exciting News: Grade 5 & 6 School Musical Announcement!
We are thrilled to announce that this year's Grade 5 and 6 musical production will be
Disney's Finding Nemo: The Musical!
Many of you may be familiar with Finding Nemo from the film, but the stage adaptation is a musical.
Performance Dates:
• Wednesday, 17th September 2025 •
• Thursday, 18th September 2025 •
This is the last week of Term 3.
Both performances will take place in the evening at the George Wood Performing Arts Centre. More information regarding ticket sales will be shared later in the year, so stay tuned to the newsletter and compass!
Student Involvement: Every Grade 5 and 6 student will play an important role in making our production spectacular. For students interested in a lead role, auditions will be held in late Term 2, with preparations ramping up in Term 3 as we work together to bring the production to life.
How Parents Can Support: Parents can support their children by noting the production dates and ensuring there are no major holiday conflicts, especially for those aiming for a lead role. However, if there is a date clash, rest assured that every student will have a part to play in the production.
Lower Primary Involvement: Students in lower primary can also contribute by contributing to our Prop Competition—more information to come about this.
We are incredibly excited to embark on this creative journey with our Grade 5 and 6 cohorts. Keep an eye on future newsletters for more updates and important information.
