A Look Back at an Unforgettable Term 2 By Charli and Neve – Year 6D
Term 2 has been packed with exciting experiences and unforgettable opportunities. We hit the ground running on day one with our camp to Angahook at Aireys Inlet – a trip that now feels like a lifetime ago!
A major focus over the past several weeks was preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation, which took place on the 31st of May. In the lead-up to this special event, we were honoured to be visited by Bishop Tony Ireland, who challenged us with some pretty tough questions. Thankfully, we were ready! Our creative use of silly acronyms in class helped us remember the Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit, and it paid off. Bishop Tony was impressed with both our knowledge and our understanding of Confirmation, especially when it came to sharing about our chosen Saints.
Many of us celebrated this important milestone with our families, sponsors, and friends. As part of our preparation, we researched our Saints and created posters, which are currently on display in the hall. If you haven’t seen them yet, we’d love for you to stop by and take a look! Here's a sample of our work:
Another highlight of the term was Winter Sports—undoubtedly one of the most exciting events of our primary school years. Competing in either football or netball against rival schools was a thrilling opportunity. The netball team had a fantastic season, winning all but one of our Friday matches! The football team may not have been as victorious, but they had a blast each week. A huge thank you to Justin Warke for volunteering his time and coaching the footballers with enthusiasm and dedication.
We wrapped up the season with the Lightning Premierships, blessed with bright, sunny winter days. Even though we didn’t bring home the trophies, we gave it our all and walked off the court and field proud of our efforts.
Week 9 was another standout moment. We couldn’t wait to hop on the bus to Sovereign Hill, an excursion that tied perfectly into our current Unit of Inquiry: Significant People and Events that Shaped Nations. This immersive experience allowed us to step back into the 1850s gold rush era—a defining chapter in Australia’s history. We learned about the population boom as people flocked from around the world to strike it rich on the goldfields.
While we were there, we watched gold being poured, visited the lolly shop to stock up on fudge and boiled sweets, and admired the historical costumes and role-playing that brought the past to life. Of course, the ultimate highlight was panning for gold! A few of us brought rather large jars, clearly expecting to make our fortunes—but who could blame us for dreaming?
All in all, Term 2 has been a semester to remember. As we head into our final semester of primary school, we do so with a mix of excitement and nerves—especially with Exhibition just around the corner and our school musical to prepare for. We Know that Term 3 is likely to be even bigger and better!
Wishing you all a happy, safe, and restful holiday. We’ll see you in Term 3!
