Principal Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

This Friday portfolios will return home with students showcasing a snapshot of their work in term 2. Student grades can be found on Compass under Learning Tasks. These grades are not set and may alter when we get to the end of Semester 1 and all the student's work is assessed and progression grades are allocated. Sam Younes recently shared with you that there will be some changes on the horizon to reporting progression points due to the changes in how we grade English and Maths under the revised Victorian Curriculum 2.0.

I would like to acknowledge those students that helped recently with our Prep Information Night, as well as those students that shared a little about their culture in the last assembly hosted by grade 56R. Sharing time as an act of service outside of school hours, as well as being brave if front of peers, are qualities to be proud of. Thank you!

Recently we overlooked a formal school gathering for National Sorry Day, I will hold my hands up for not being organised with this in 2025. I would like to say sorry to those children and families that have been accustomed to being recognised on this day by our school community. It has been an important moment for our school over the last few years and will continue to be in the future.

NAIDOC week again falls in our school holidays. We will focus on sharing information with students regarding NAIDOC week through our teaching and learning programs leading up to the end of term.

Thank you to Emma Wright and Sarah Jones, as well as everyone who took part, for organising a spotlight on National Simultaneous Story time. I hope we all enjoyed the Truck Cat.

I would like to thank our teachers for supporting the recent rounds of pre-service teachers at RHPS. They all look like they have enjoyed contributing to our school community. Hopefully your children have not confused you when sharing that they have new teachers.

Thank you to Brendan Van Haaster for organsing and fundraising for The Biggest Morning Tea last week. On the donation page,  well over $500 was raised towards this great cause. Well done.

Grade 34 are out at Hoop Time today. Let's hope they had fun. At RHPS we are proud of their efforts.

We have had a lot of sick staff and students. Thank you for nursing your children back to health and for your understanding while staff are away. We have been supported by fantastic replacement teachers. Let's hope the worst is past us all.

Looking ahead our efforts will step up in the Ruccis space with the students' routines being filmed next week for them to practice. We are pleased that our families are able to purchase the tickets they need. A final reminder for tickets. The sales have slowed down, but there are still tickets left. We are expecting the production to sell out. I truly have all my fingers and toes crossed that no one misses out and is disappointed. Please make buying them a priority OR talk to us if finances are a current issue and we will help you.

I realise we have a social media presence beyond the school facebook page. The informal families page has many positives for keeping families informed and connected away from the more formal school channels. A reminder that talking to us directly will always solve any issues you may have quicker than through a facebook post. Kindness encourages kindness online.

Students in grade 4-6 will be asked to share their voice through the school's Attitude to Schools Survey. Emily Murcott will meet each level and help them understand how they share their current thoughts on our school and their learning.

On the horizon we have a curriculum day on Wednesday 11th June. We do have OSHCare available that day. Thank you as always for the support for our professional days. This one is focussed on whole school maths and will unpack Multiplication for all staff.

Yarra Council have recently engaged with us regarding traffic around the school at pick-up and drop-off times. They are aiming to reduce the traffic flow by 20%, make our streets safer and hopefully provide a pathway at the rear. It is early days but I am hopeful some changes for the benefit of all of us, may happen at some point. One suggestion I have made is that council representatives visit the school and meet and greet families to gather your thoughts. Watch this space.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Best wishes,

Craig
