Year 5 Assembly

On Monday the 26th of May 2025, Year 5 students did their assembly about National Reconciliation Week and Sorry Day.

Before the assembly, we learnt about Sorry Day and read about the story of the Stolen Generations, which were the First Nations people who were sadly taken away from their families. We also did an activity about saying sorry and we made it into a Reflection Wall. We cut out paper hands that we wrote on and decorated them in red, yellow and black to symbolise the Aboriginal flag. We also added some green, white, blue and black colours to represent the Torres Strait Islander flag.  We wrote words that had to do with Sorry Day like hope, peace and love and we also wrote sentences about saying sorry.

At the assembly, we presented what we had learnt about Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week to the school. One of the quotes that was a highlight for us was ‘Reconciliation Week is when we listen to each other and build relationships to walk to a better future´. This means that we should show respect to all First Nations people and everyone we meet. We also showed the school our Reflection Wall that had all of our paper hands on it.
