Primary Department

Kindergarten
Kindergarten has had a very busy start to Term 2. In Science we have been learning about plants and animals in our unit on living things. It was lots of fun making our very own pets using play dough. One of the books we have read this term was Farmer John’s Tractor. Kindergarten would like to thank Mrs Upjohn for taking us to the Ag Plot to look at and sit on the school’s tractor. We participated in the athletics carnival and visited Harold in the Life Education Van. We would like to welcome Mrs Wilson who teaches Kindergarten on Tuesdays. She has been teaching History and students have enjoyed looking into the past at themselves as babies. Congratulations to all Kindergarten students for their very entertaining performance in assembly. You were all stars!
Year 1
This term in Science with Mr McLean Year 1 has been exploring the different forms that energy comes in.
Students explored where sound comes from by investigating how vibrations produce sound. They engaged with various sound sources, experimented with musical instruments and observed how actions like shaking, striking, scraping and blowing created sounds.
UNE Science & Discovery Voyager
Last Wednesday students from K-10 had the opportunity to participate in the UNE Science and Discovery Voyager. They had a fantastic time learning about plants, poop and pollinators, the magic of physics and escape the museum.
Colour the Earth Art Camp
Last Thursday and Friday Mitchell, Hailie and Chelsie travelled to Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre for an overnight art camp. They had lots of fun refining their creative skills in painting, drawing and digital art.
Year 2
As part of their history unit, Emeralds conducted research on a significant historical building in our community. To share their knowledge, the students created a model of Gostwyck Chapel and wrote an information text to accompany their building. These fabulous chapels will be heading to the McCrossin Mill Museum and displayed as a short exhibition. Well done Year 2 historians!
