Principal's Message

Mrs Kylie Bryant - Principal

Happy Week 6, we are officially halfway through Term 2 with the first half of the term being filled with so many activities. Across the last two weeks we have had:

  • SES Wear Orange to School Day
  • Winter PSSA started
  • P&C Meeting
  • Reconciliation Week
  • Debating
  • Author Visit
  • Zone Cross Country
  • Book Fair
  • Grandparents Day
  • Navy Band performance

The school has been a hive of activity, and from the list above, there has been something for everyone. I thank you for your involvement and for supporting our students and the community in our endeavours. I also want to thank our staff, as many of these events could not happen without their support and dedication.

On Monday 26 May I spoke with the P&C about our plans for technology and sought their support in jointly funding a technology influx to the school. The P&C will vote on this proposal at the next meeting where I do hope you can join in and support this important proposal. Please remember you need to be a financial member to vote.

Yesterday it was wonderful to see so many grandparents join us for open classrooms, community picnic and our Scholastic Book Fair. Grandparents are very special people, and I love witnessing the bond that children have with their grandparents. Thank you to those grandparents, parents and family friends who came along and enjoyed the morning and also happened to purchase a book or two! We appreciate you making the effort to come from far and wide to join us.

Attendance Matters

Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. NSW public schools work in partnership with parents to encourage and support the regular attendance of children and young people. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.

Starting next term, any student whose attendance is less than 85% will receive a letter via email informing parents and carers of our concerns for their child's attendance. It will highlight the number of days your child has been absent and encourage you to speak with us about any ongoing concerns and issues preventing your child from attending school. We encourage you to work with your child’s class teacher and develop a plan to support your child’s attendance at school.

The Importance of arriving on time:

  • Ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day
  • Helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine
  • Give students time to greet their friends before class
  • Reduces classroom disruption
  • Lateness is recorded as a partial absence and must be explained by parents.

What if my child has to be away from school?

On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:

  • being sick, or having an infectious disease
  • having an unavoidable medical appointment
  • being required to attend a recognised religious holiday
  • exceptional or urgent family circumstance (e.g. attending a funeral)
