Report from Assistant Principal  Year 11/12

Senior School Reflection

As we conclude the semester, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all staff and students within our Senior School. Together, we have worked diligently to uphold a positive and productive learning environment. Our VCE mainstream students have demonstrated strong commitment to their studies, preparing thoroughly for school-based assessments and working consistently to complete coursework across all subjects. For our Year 12 cohort, the upcoming VCAA exams represent both a challenge and an exciting opportunity—one that we are confident they are ready to meet.

Students undertaking the VCE Vocational Major and Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) have continued to make steady progress in their core subjects, successfully completing assessments and coursework. In addition, they have shown great dedication to their external programs, including SBATs and VET courses. To all our senior students, I encourage you to continue focusing on the fundamentals: maintain high attendance, establish a regular revision routine, and prioritise your physical and mental wellbeing. These habits are essential for both academic and personal success.

This semester, our students have been exceptionally well supported by the senior sub-school team. I would like to formally thank Mr. Denholm Pickering (Director of Learning), Ms. Kristina Vasilakis (Year 12 Coordinator), Ms. Helen Ifandis (Year 11 Coordinator), Mr. Kristian Gropel (Applied Learning Coordinator), Ms. Vicky Karayiannis (ES Support), Ms. Geraldine (Careers and Pathways Advisor), and Ms. Jane Jamieson (HeadStart Coordinator) for their unwavering dedication and support of our senior students. As we look ahead to the second half of the year, our sub-school is well positioned to build on this momentum and strive toward achieving both individual and cohort goals with confidence.

2025 Semester One Reports

A reminder to all students and parents/carers that Semester 1 Reports will be available on Compass from 4:00pm on Wednesday, 2nd July. These reports offer a comprehensive overview of student performance across all subjects for the semester.

They include:

  • Summative assessment grades
  • Learning behaviour performance
  • Attendance data
  • Outcomes and unit completions (for VCE students)
  • Victorian Curriculum levels achieved (Years 7–10)

These reports will form a valuable foundation for discussion during the Semester 2 Parent-Teacher Conferences next term.

2026 Course and Subject Selection

As we near the end of Semester 1, we also begin preparations for the 2026 Program and Subject Selection process. This is a significant milestone, particularly for our Year 10 students, as the decisions they make now will help shape their pathways beyond secondary school.

During the holiday break, we encourage all students to read their relevant Sub-School Handbooks, which outline available programs and subjects for 2026. These handbooks will be accessible via the college website, Compass, and Teams. Parental involvement is essential during this time. Reviewing the handbooks with your child is a simple but powerful way to support their decision-making process.

In Year 10, teachers will also provide recommendations for science and mathematics subjects based on each student’s Semester 1 CAT (Common Assessment Task) results. Throughout Term 3, important updates and information about subject selection will continue to be shared via Compass to assist both students and families with the steps involved.

We will also host the 2026 Course Selection Parent Information Evening on Thursday, 24th July, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in the Senior Learning Centre. This event is open to all year levels but is especially relevant for Year 9 and 10 families, as students begin selecting subjects that will shape their senior school journey.

Term 3 Parent-Teacher Interviews

Our second round of Parent-Teacher Interviews will take place in Week 4 of Term 3, on Wednesday 13th August. These interviews are an important opportunity to strengthen the partnership between school and home, ensuring student learning needs are met.

Discussions during interviews provide insight into:

  • Academic progress
  • Areas for improvement
  • Achievements and strengths

Research consistently shows that active parental involvement enhances student achievement. These conversations help deepen parental engagement and support continued learning at home. While we encourage in-person attendance, interviews can also be attended via Microsoft Teams for added flexibility. Interpreter services will be available where needed to support effective communication. Please note: The Parent-Teacher booking portal will open in Week 3 of Term 3, and instructions on how to book interviews will be sent out via Compass notifications.
