Grade 4

Literacy

This term, our Grade 4 students have been actively building their literacy skills. They’ve been diving into the text Uncle Xbox, using it as inspiration to improve their sentence writing through fun activities and meaningful class discussions. Alongside this, students have been learning how to write factual recounts. This week, we focused on the landing of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, learning that 11 ships arrived from England and that the fleet carried over 700 convicts. Students used these facts to write another paragraph for their recount, practising how to organise and present historical information clearly.

Numeracy

This week in Grade 4, we have been learning all about length and how to measure it accurately. We’ve explored different units of measurement, like centimetres (cm) for small objects and metres (m) for longer distances. Students practised using rulers and metre sticks correctly, making sure to start at zero and read the measurements carefully. We also learned about perimeter, which is the total distance around the outside of a shape. We practised calculating perimeter by adding the lengths of straight sides and also explored how to estimate and measure shapes that have curved sides. It’s been a fun and hands-on week of measuring!

Mother’s Day

We loved welcoming our wonderful mothers into our classrooms last week, after enjoying a delicious egg and bacon roll together. It was a fun and creative morning, with lots of smiles as we worked on special artwork to take home. We hope all the amazing mums and special people in our students' lives had a fantastic day on Sunday and were truly spoiled!
