The Old Treasury Building
Year 12 Legal Studies
Our Year 12 Legal Studies students recently embarked on an enriching excursion to two of Melbourne’s most significant civic institutions: The Old Treasury Building and Parliament House.
At the Old Treasury Building, students explored the origins of Australia’s federation and gained deeper insights into the role of the Executive Council and the Governor in our system of government. This historical context brought to life many of the key concepts studied in class and helped students connect past political developments to our modern legal system.
The learning continued at Parliament House, where students had the unique opportunity to sit in on live sessions in both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council.
To cap off a memorable visit, the students met their local member, James Newbury MP, who warmly welcomed them and even gave the group a special shout-out during the parliamentary session.
It was a fantastic day that brought Legal Studies beyond the textbook and gave our students a front-row seat to democracy in action.
