Year 10 Outdoor Education Camp – Foster and Wilsons Promontory
During week 4 of Term 2, the Year 10 Outdoor Education class participated in a 5-day campat Foster and Wilsons Prom National Park to apply the concepts learnt in the classroom to their own outdoor experiences. Students delved into the impacts of technology on outdoor experiences, practiced safe and sustainable camping and considered their place in outdoor environments.
Day 1 consisted of a 38km bike along the Great Southern Rail Trail from Koonwarra to Foster with well-earned stops along the way at Meeniyan and Fish Creek to refuel and take a break.
Days 2-5 involved base camping at Tidal River campground in Wilsons Promontory National Park where we visited the Big Drift sand dunes, hiked to Little Oberon Bay and summited Mt Oberon. With wetsuits at the ready, we also braved the cooler temperatures and participated in a fun surfing lesson at Norman Beach to round off a fantastic week of camp.
We were extremely lucky to experience a beautiful week of May sunshine, whilst the group was also fortunate enough to witness a variety of native wildlife including emus, whales, wallabies, brush tail possums and the resident wombats of Tidal River.
