Year 7 Students Explore Culture and History at the Jewish Museum of Australia
Earlier this term, our Year 7 students had the enriching opportunity to visit the Jewish Museum of Australia in St Kilda, as part of their Humanities curriculum. The excursion provided a unique chance to deepen their understanding of Jewish history, culture, and identity through engaging exhibits and guided learning.
Students explored a range of thought-provoking displays, including artefacts, personal stories, and interactive multimedia that brought historical events to life, from ancient traditions to the contemporary experiences of the Jewish community in Australia.
Many students reflected on the power of personal narratives and the importance of respecting and preserving cultural heritage. The museum’s guides commended our students for their thoughtful questions, respectful conduct, and genuine interest throughout the day.
The visit supported classroom learning and aligned with the school’s values of empathy, inclusivity, and global citizenship. We thank the Jewish Museum staff for providing such a meaningful experience and look forward to further excursions that bring history and culture to life.
Student Refection’s
We wanted to share some reflections from your Japanese-speaking students, which we’ve translated:
“I believe being the light means that everybody is equal and should be gentle to everyone. I want to live in a world without prejudice. To make a world where different cultures can live together. The most important thing is to know the cultures of others. Mao”
“The world I dream of is peaceful. And this time spent at the museum, the things we learnt can be that to everyone. To think about making a better world, we have to rethink and consider others. That is the most important. This is not a one-person problem, but everyone's problem.” Sakura
