CHS Open Netball Knockout – Success in Glen Innes!
On Monday 26th May the open girls netball team travelled to Glen Innes to participate in the Open Girls Netball Gala Day. The girls played 4 games against Glen Innes, MacIntyre, Armidale & Uralla. All games were hard fought with the girls coming away with 4 wins and progressing on to the next round of the competition.
All the girls are to be commended on their sportsmanship and wearing the school netball uniform with pride, they all played an integral part in the teams achievements.
In week 4 two of our Year12 students Addison Murphy and India Hall represent North West at the CHS Netball Championships in Tamworth. Both girls played extremely well & represented the school and region with pride.
Volleyball
Volleyball is a sport that is increasing in popularity across our region, and this was very evident at the NW gala day that was played in Armidale on Friday 30th May. There were 10 boys' and 10 girls' teams nominated, which made for a hectic and long day.
The boys team came up against strong competition in their pool games and recorded 2 wins against Quirindi and Guyra, losing in 2 close sets to Macintyre and taking Armidale Secondary College to 3 sets. Unfortunately, this meant they narrowly missed out on playing the finals. This team has some really exciting Year 10 players, which makes the next few years something to look forward to, as they are sure to develop into strong players.
The girls teams dominated their pool games with 4 impressive wins, not dropping a set and only being taken to double point once by Glen Innes. They then played Warialda in the semi-final and were pushed to 3 sets in a tight game and came away with a good win. In the regional final against Macintyre High, the girls initially struggled with the opposition's strong serving but rallied to draw at 1 set each. The third set was first to 15, and we couldn't quite get there against a very strong and well-coached opposition. Congratulations to MHS on their title of regional champions, and both teams now progress to the state finals in Homebush early in term 3.
A big thank you to Mrs Stapleton for driving the bus and Mr Mather and Mrs Marshall for coaching the teams.
Under 15s Girls Football
Our Under 15s Girls Soccer team faced off against Oxley High School today in Tamworth. Although they were narrowly defeated, the girls played with heart, determination, and high spirits throughout the match. A great effort by all – well done, team!
A big thank to Mrs Harris for coaching and Mr Luxford for driving the bus and supporting the team throughout the day. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!
