Thursday Clubs

During Term 2 we have been running "Thursday Clubs" from 2pm each fortnight. The students were given the opportunity to choose from Garden Club, Cooking Club, STEM Club, Lego Club, Creative Kids Club & Games Club. The clubs give our students the opportunity to build new skills and mix between Stages, trying something new or enjoying time doing what they love.
COOKING CLUB made choc chips cookies last fortnight and sausage rolls this week. Yummo!
GARDEN CLUB has been busy over past fortnights preparing our garden beds with fertiliser and mulch, thanks go out to the McLennan's for the manure. After a group discussion the decision was made to make a sensory garden leading to a birds, bees and butterflies garden in Spring. They got to test some acorns for planting viability by doing the flotation test and smelled some mint, which was then set up for propagation. They have examined a snow pea and its fresh seeds, then studied dried snow pea seeds which were set up to strike.
This week they checked the emerging snow peas, weeded and classified plants and trees on the playground.
They smelt and tasted aromatic plants used for cooking and checked the details in flowers that attract birds, bees and butterflies, including lavender, kaffir lime leaves, camellias, roses, dahlias, rosemary, salvia, amaranth, mint, & parsley.
They have now also set up bins for compost materials at each classroom door.
A very busy few of sessions.
STEM Club
Well these superstars have been trialing coding with spheros, shape differentiating and problem solving with OSMOs, design and engineering with limted resources in bridge building and exploring their creativity with Rube Goldberg Machine designs. We are certainly looking forward to our next STEM Club.
