A celebration of our creativity

Exciting Opportunity for Holy Spirit Students

We’re excited to once again take part in the annual Soul Inspired Art Exhibition — a public event that celebrates the artistic talents of Holy Spirit Community School students.

As many of you know, students have been working hard on their art pieces for our upcoming school art show next term. This year, we’re excited to open entries to the entire school community to complete at home. Students are invited to create a free-choice artwork at home and bring it to school for the chance to be featured in this special exhibition.

All students will be introduced to the exhibition in art classes next week. If your child would like to participate, please send Sarah a Dojo message for further details or encourage your child to speak with her during their weekly art lesson.

We can’t wait to see the creativity our students bring to this year’s exhibit!

What's happening in the art room?

Week 5 & 6

Prep

Our Prep students have been busily completing their vibrant coral reef sculptures, adding final touches using a variety of craft and recycled materials. They’ve also been introduced to clay and are very excited to be using our school kiln for the first time.Their new project is a clay pinch pot bee. Before beginning, we explored the vital role bees play in our environment. Students then used their hands and tools to shape the bee’s body, wings, and antennae, developing both sculptural skills and environmental awareness.

Year 1 & 2

Year 1 and 2 students have continued working on their clay autumn leaves, drawing inspiration from real leaves to shape and texture their pieces. After drying and bisque firing, they began painting their leaves using autumn-toned acrylic paints, aiming for realistic finishes while exploring colour mixing and brushwork.

Year 3 & 4

Year 3 and 4 students are putting the final touches on their woven turtles, creating textured ocean backgrounds using watercolour ink and rock salt for a shimmering effect. They’ve also begun planning their next project where students will build paddlepop stick bird feeders. We discussed the impact of habitat loss on native birds and how small actions can help. Students are now using problem-solving skills and creativity to bring their bird feeder designs to life.

Year 5 & 6

Year 5 and 6 students have been completing their bleached coral reef sculptures using clay, exploring both the beauty and fragility of marine ecosystems. The level of detail and imagination they’ve shown has been incredible, and we’re so excited to showcase these meaningful works at our upcoming art show.
