From the 1/2 Classrooms

What a memorable few weeks we have had in Grade 1/2!

Grandparents' Day

In Week 4, we welcomed our grandparents and special people into the school. The excitement and buzz in the classrooms was amazing! The students were mini teachers in teaching their guests how to play the maths game, ‘Get Out Of My House’. Lots of laughs and smiles were had!

As part of the session, students completed a reflection activity with their special person. They thought about what they like to do together and ways in which they can help each other. We are sure that this time together in the classroom will be a memory that both will treasure.

National Simultaneous Storytime

In Week 5, the Grade 1 and 2 students participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime session. What a special event it was to be a part of!

Students joined in listening to the picture storybook The Truck Cat written by Deborah Frenkel and illustrated by Danny Snell, being read online by the National Trust Library.

You can listen to the story online here!

NSS is an important annual campaign that supports children's literacy by encouraging reading in a fun, community event. Now celebrating its 25th successful year, following their most successful year in 2024.

Let’s hear what our students thought about the book, The Truck Cat

‘There was a cat in it. It was cute.’ Celina

‘It was amazing how the cat survived and didn’t get squished by the truck!’ Matilda

‘I liked that the man was unique. Only the cat could understand the man and others couldn’t’. Dakota

‘Other people didn’t know what he was saying but the lady did.’ Mia

‘I thought the map was very interesting because I could see lots of places on it.’ Hana

‘I liked the spot the difference between the front and the back covers.’ Xu Dong

‘I was shocked to hear that so many people were watching at the same time.’ Envie

Last year’s NSS event was a tremendous success, with over 2.3 million participants across Australia! I wonder how many people tuned in together this year?

Kind regards,

Grade 1 and 2 Teachers
