Principal Report

Our school is located on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.

Day 1 Review

On Monday May 26th our school Review commenced. The panel lead by an external reviewer the day was spent exploring the targets and goals the school had set out for the previous four years. The panel visited classrooms, analysed the data and the reflective summary the school presented.

We were able to provide a statement on the highlights of the school in the last four years. The information for this was gathered through the consultation session held earlier this year with staff, students and parents (including School Council).

Initial classroom observations took place with the panel breaking into three groups – they were able to visit a professional learning team meeting with Year 3/4 and eight learning spaces.

Time was spent reviewing the Pre Review Self Evaluation document put together by the school including the targets and goals set by the school. Discussion included the outcomes in learning and wellbeing, the enablers and the barriers for this work. It was a great opportunity for Kristen (wellbeing learning specialist) and Julie (curriculum learning specialist) to talk about their work and what stage the school was at with implementation of the goals in the strategic plan.

The panel also discussed the work around priority cohorts throughout this strategic Plan period – including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island students, English as Additional Language students, students with a disability and disadvantaged students.

The conclusion of Day 1 focused on questions and wonderings about the school - with the panel identifying what they wanted to know more about. This is going to be used to inform their work on Day 2 next Monday June 2nd.

Parent Focus groups

Parent focus groups are part of day 2 of the Review - Fieldwork Day. The review panel consisting of the Reviewer, Regional Senior Education Improvement Leader and two challenge partners - principals from two other schools – will be undertaking more classroom visits and conducting student, staff and parent focus groups on this day.

The discussion in focus groups is based on the panel exploration of data on Day 1 - they use Fieldwork to answer their questions about the school.

The review panel is inviting parents to join them for one of two focus groups on Monday June 2nd at 9.00am and 3.00pm

The parent focus group will be led in a discussion by the panel and asked questions to gather more information about the school. These sessions will give parents the opportunity to share their experience of the school, the successes and future goals for learning and wellbeing. These sessions will identify strengths and areas for development.

We hope many of you will be able to attend - these sessions will take place in Room 8.

Budget allocation - refurbishment and capital works plan

We were excited to hear last week that Boroondara Park PS has been included in the allocation of funds in the 2025-2026 State Budget.

Our school has been included in a group of 20 school who will share in $10 million to commence planning to upgrade and modernise the school, for Boroondara Park PS this includes planning for the refurbishment of the main building.

The task now is to work with the Victorian School Building Authority on the development of an Asset Management Plan - Phase 1 which needs to be completed over the next 6 weeks. This phase is providing information about the school learning and wellbeing programs and how these are currently implemented.

Phase 2 involves more detailed master planning/spatial analysis, and this is undertaken by an appointed architect in conjunction with the project control group. The VSBA oversees this process, and we are part of the group to ensure at all times the school needs are included.

This work is to plan for future upgrades and is an excellent step forward for BPPS.

This is a great public school, and ensuring our students have access to excellent learning spaces as well as excellent learning and wellbeing programs is key to our future as a school. With a history of 70 years education on this site the allocation of these funds indicates our school is a vital part of the local community.

Instagram - this week

The school Instagram page is filled with ways for you to learn about what is happening in school each week.

  • self-portraits from our previous CLaS session

  • Year 5/6 sport

  • National Simultaneous Storytime - The Truck Cat

The production

The production rehearsals are in full swing. Thank you to the parents who are supporting the production with costumes and props, like all school events we cannot offer such experiences to our students without your assistance.

This year we have our school production on November 10th at The Round. Following parent feedback, we have only one night for the production performance.

It took some time to find a theatre that would meet our needs and after visiting a number of sites Ms Zoe found The Round. The theatre holds 600 people in the audience.

Ticketing will happen through the venue; each family can purchase at least two tickets - we are currently seeking advice from the venue about the process. We want to make sure the show is a sellout, that all parents can attend and extra seats are accessed fairly. Stay tuned!

Where do we come from?
