Personal and Social Capability

CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in the resilience project we are learning to recognise the important role our emotions have.

VOCABULARY

Emotions: An emotion is a feeling such as happiness, love, fear, anger or curiosity, which can be caused by the situation that you are in or the people that you are with.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Play a game of “Name that Emotion” with your child.

How to play: Choose an emotion from the list below (or another emotion of your choice) and using your face and body, act out that emotion. Ask your partner to identify what emotion you are showing. Discuss with that person a situation you may be in that causes you to feel that type of emotion.

Emotions List:

  • Angry
  • Sad
  • Frustrated
  • Happy
  • Excited
  • Nervous
  • Furious
  • Anxious
  • Curious
  • Surprised
  • Jealous
  • Calm
  • Embarrassed
  • Confused
  • Relaxed

You might even like to choose two or three emotions and draw a picture of a situation that you have been in before that has caused you to feel that emotion and whether you think it was a positive or negative emotion for you in that time.
