Term 4 Week 8 2023 - Friday 24th November

What have we been up to?

Can you believe the final countdown is on! We have 3 full weeks to go!

Over the last two weeks in Reading, we have been developing a deep understanding of different informal letters. Students read ‘Meerkat Mail’ which was full of postcards Sunny had written to his family from his travels. They then read “Dear Mr Blueberry,” which was full of letter correspondences between Emily and Mr Blueberry about a whale that appeared in a pond. By reading these books they learn the language and text features of letters and what makes a letter a letter and how it differs from a postcard.

In Writing, students have been putting their letter knowledge to good use. They have written their own postcards back to Sunny and their own letters to a teacher of their choice about the animal that appeared in their homes. They followed the structure and included all the features they had been learning about.

In Maths, students have spent a week looking at division. They learnt and modelled a fair share, learnt about the division symbol and explored its relationship with multiplication. They also began looking at time. Looked at digital clocks and analogue clocks, to make their own clocks and started looking at o’clock and half past.

Here are some photo highlights from the fortnight that was!

1/2A - We created Remembrance Day art pieces

1/2B - We played place value bingo to revise our place value knowledge

1/2C - As part of our unit on time we created paper clocks.

What is coming up?

Reading

In Reading, students will continue developing their comprehension skills by exploring how to think deeply about texts by making inferences about character actions and emotions. Students will use evidence from the text; such as what characters say or how character’s look in illustrations, to support their inferences.

Writing

Over the next couple of weeks in Writing, students will continue exploring the topic of transactional writing. They will look at examples of diary entries and other informal letters that will assist them to write their own diary entries and letters using the correct structure and language features.

Maths

In Maths, students will be revisiting division and further developing their understanding of how different sized groups can be used to represent certain equations. They will continue building their understanding of reading analogue and digital clocks and using the language of time to describe the duration of events.

Inquiry & Science

In Inquiry, students will continue exploring new and unique cultures with focus on their traditions and celebrations throughout the year. In Science, students will further their understanding of how light and sound can be observed and manipulated in our world.
