This week in Culture Studies, students continued to learn about the Polynesian culture and their traditions, where they explored the traditional art of Tapa cloth dying.ย Students were able to design their own tapa cloth by drawing lines or floral images onto their cloth using white oil pastel. They then painted on food dye to cover their whole cloth. ย Foundation and Year 3 /4 students also completed their traditional Tatau (tattoo) design, where they created a print from it.ย

Over the past 2 weeks of PE in years 1-6, students continued to learn the skills of tennis. As the students progressed they showed significant improvements in their skills and understanding which allowed us to run a mini class tournament in each class. It was a great unit of tennis over the past 4 weeks and the team work and sportsmanship shown in each class was very pleasing to see. Students were excited to play, but also very happy to congratulate each other after each game, even if they didnโt win that game. Well done to everyone for their efforts.

In Foundation we have been working on minor games, tabloid sport skills and team work. Students worked with a partner to practise their team work, catching, passing skills, cooperation and listening skills. They then played some team games of tunnel ball and leader-ball where they had to put all of these skills into action. It is pleasing to see how the students are able to support each other and encourage each other to be successful.

During Health, students have been focusing on how the body works. Over the past two weeks students have learnt how the body is able to move, by focusing on the skeletal system and the muscular system. They understand that the muscles join bones over a joint which contracts and extends to allow our body to move. It has been highlighted that the more active we are, the healthier we are, so students are encouraged to get out and dance, play games, sports and exercise.

Students in years 3-6 have continued to develop their skills and knowledge of bike safety, education and riding skills. We have progressed from specific riding skills on the nearby netball courts to riding around the footpath and oval next to Le Page PS. Students in years 3-4 have remained on footpath or oval developing their skills and cooperation, while the 5-6โs have also completed these circuit as well as progressing to riding on the roads around the nearby streets, in preparation for their โBig Ride Outโ which is coming up next week.
It has been very pleasing to see all students developing their riding skills, as well as supporting each other and improving their team work and cooperation.ย
Well done to everyone involved in this program.

This week saw us host our third ever Scholastic Book Fair and it was a huge success! Keep your eyes peeled for information about how much we made in the next newsletter or at assembly. Mr Bโs hair hopefully will not be safe!
An extra massive thank you to all the lovely library leaders who came before school or stayed afterwards to help; I could not have done it without you, and you basically made teacher helpers redundant. Well done!
Our next fair will happen in May next year, and we are already looking forward to it.
ย
Have a lovely weekend and keep on reading!
