Year 12's Last Week

It was a busy week at LCS, as the Year 12's reached the significant milestone of their final week of school.

The week started with 'Make Your Mark Monday', where staff and students signed leaver's shirts. On 'Time Capsule Tuesday' students brought items and wrote letters to their future selves and created a time capsule. Students dressed up as something starting with the letter from their first name, on 'Wear Your Name Wednesday'. On 'Throwback Thursday' students wore their Primary or Middle School uniforms to school for the day, and their kinder photos were put on display.

To cap it all off, 'Fun Friday' started with a feast of a hot breakfast, and heart-warming speeches from teachers. The Year 12's then held a Book Week Parade for the Primary students. The day ended with a special message from our SLC over the PA - who said thank you and goodbye on behalf of the cohort.

Our prayer is that students will do their best in their upcoming exams and finish the year well celebrating at the Senior School Dinner and Celebration Night. Please remember our Year 11 and 12 students in prayer as they continue to sit exams next week.

Congratulations - Science & Engineering Challenge Team

Thanks to our generous sponsors and the team's hard work in winning the previous rounds, the Science & Engineering Challenge team headed to Sydney to represent Tasmania in the National Championships. At half time, LCS were sitting in 5th place on the leaderboard, but after an impressive bridge test we ended up placing equal third in the competition. Congratulations!

2023 Northern Territory Experience

Over the Term 3 break, a number of staff and students embarked on an incredible adventure in the hot but stunning Northern Territory.

At the top end of this breathtaking land, our young explorers deepened their connection with God's magnificent creation as they experienced a vastly different environment and climate from Tasmania. From navigating the city of Darwin, to exploring the rugged landscapes of Litchfield National Park and cruising a river system in Kakadu, their trip was an opportunity for them to reflect on God's greatness and learn about and connect with Indigenous culture.

STARweek - Mrs Lawes

STARweek (Science Technician Appreciation & Recognition Week) is an opportunity for schools to appreciate and recognise the professional support, invaluable knowledge and experience that science technicians contribute to schools.

At LCS, we are blessed to have Mrs Lawes as our Senior Laboratory Technician. As a school we are genuinely appreciative of her service, humility, and excellence in this role. Mrs Lawes consistently puts others before herself and her Christian servanthood is a wonderful example to all those around her.

1 Peter 4:10-11 10 'As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace... whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.'

Welcome, Aubrey Marie

Congratulations to Mrs Lauren Fry (Secondary School Teacher) Tim, Henry, and Mabel, on the birth of Aubrey this week. She looks absolutely delightful, and we praise God with you for her safe arrival.

Maths Competition High Achievers Award

Congratulations to Benjamin Polis, a year 11 student, for his exceptional performance in the Australian Maths Competition. Benjamin’s dedication earned him a High Distinction, an achievement that places him among the top 5% of students in the competition. This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to his hard work, perseverance, and genuine passion for mathematics.

Ben received a High Achievers Award at a special presentation night held in Hobart. The ceremony celebrated the mathematical talents of students from all across Tasmania. During the event, local maths teacher Emily Peterson, a member of the problem creation committee for the competition, provided an interesting talk on the connection between mathematics and beauty, exploring the concepts of the golden ratio and the golden rule. Emily, a current parent at our school, shared her insights and passion for mathematics with the audience.

Former Student Signs with Melbourne City

Former LCS student Jeho Ryou has signed for professional A-league side Melbourne City as a part of their youth academy. His family took a step of faith and moved to Melbourne at the beginning of the year to pursue further soccer opportunities for him after excelling at all possible levels in Tasmania. I'm sure many would agree this couldn't have happened to a more deserving lovely family. Jeho was also a member of our SLC last year in Year 6.

Secondary Sport

The State Finals of the High School Netball Champs was held in Devonport this Thursday. The team did a great job representing LCS, and made it through to the semi-finals against St Pats. Well done team!

This week we organised and hosted the Christian Schools Atheletics Carnival at St Leonards. The day was held under salubrious conditions, and LCS were successful in winning the overall shield again. Congratulations, team!

Year 8 students, Sam, Adam and Josiah came third in the team event at the All Schools Cross Country competition held earlier this year at Symonds Plains.

Along with the LCS Parent Lounge, Launceston Christian School has partnered with K12 Solutions to provide a new way for parents to access our online resources.Next week, you will receive a welcome email with your new LCS parent account credentials, your Parent ID Passport (or PIPs for short). This one account with allow you to access all our online portals including:

What’s even better is that this single account will also allow you to log in using one of the following identity providers: Google, Microsoft, Apple, or Facebook, provided the email registered with the provider matches the email you have currently given to LCS.

Please be aware that your old login credentials will stop working so you will need to update any stored credentials in your web browsers. You will also need to log out of our smartphone app and then log in again using these new credentials.

So, what now?

  • Keep an eye out for your Parent ID Passport welcome email. You should see it next week. Follow the instructions to set up your new account including linking an identity provider. Again, your old credentials to TheHub will stop working so get this done as soon as possible.
  • Once you have set up your new PIPs account, log into TheHub and check out the Parent Lounge. Maybe update some details like your children’s swimming ability or medical information.

Student Office Passes Information

ABSENCES/ATTENDANCE

Communication regarding a student’s absence needs to come via the school office. This information will then be passed on to the student’s teachers. Parents are asked where possible to telephone the school or email the office in advance when a student will be absent.  If you subscribe to the mobile app, The Hub you can also lodge an electronic absentee form which will reach the office immediately.  The school telephone number is (03) 6327 2854 and email is office@lcs.tas.edu.au

Students who are late must sign in at the school office.  Students will be issued a ‘late pass’ that must be presented to their teacher.  Students who sign in ‘late’ must have a note of explanation from home.   Three unexplained late arrivals will result in a detention.

Yr11/12 students that have a study period in the morning and do not attend Class Teacher must sign in at the office as soon as they arrive at school, if students have not signed in whole day absences will be on their record. Yr 11/12 students may leave the school grounds during study periods, however they are required to sign out and back in at the office.  This is important, particularly in the case of an emergency, so students can be accounted for by the staff and emergency services.

Written permission is required to leave the school grounds during school hours (except Year 11 & 12).  Students are to meet parents at the office. All students must use the sign out folder at the student counter in the main office.  When students return to school, they should report to the student counter in the main office and sign in.

If families intend to be absent from school due to extended holidays (3 days or more), parents need to fill out in advance an Application for Extended Leave for Travel form, found under the Parents and Students/Downloads & Policies tab on our website:  www.lcs.tas.edu.au(Please see Extended Leave Policy on next pages)

MEDICATION

Should your child need to take prescribed medication at school please inform the school office.  All medication, both prescription and over the counter medication, needs to be in original packaging and labelled with clear dosage instructions (prescription medication needs dosage instructions from a registered medical practitioner) and must be administered at the school office and students are not permitted to carry medication at school. Medical forms are sent home at the beginning of each school year and parents are able to indicate whether they give permission for paracetamol to be administered if required.

UNIFORM

Students who are not in correct uniform, wrong jacket or coloured socks etc must get a uniform pass from the office.  A note of explanation should be provided by parents.  Three uniform non compliances, without parent explanation, will result in a detention.
