Updates around the college

Billy Barnes - Assistant Principal P - 6

Dear Kyabram P-12 College Families,

I hope this Channels edition finds you well and enjoying the start of a new week. As we head into the final months of the school year, I wanted to take this opportunity to share some important announcements and highlights from our school community.

Ping-pong arena coming soon:

I am thrilled to announce that Kaitlyn Souter and Carmen Nicholson have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to plan an outdoor ping-pong arena. The first stage of this exciting project has already begun, with the laying of the concrete slab next to the hall in the secondary area. The tables and equipment have been ordered and we anticipate their delivery very soon. We can't wait to see our students engage in friendly matches and enjoy this new addition to our school grounds.

Tongala 3rd Cavalry regiment Vietnam:

Last week, Aleks, Anthony, and Maddie represented our school with pride as they led the March as drummers alongside members of the 3rd Cavalry association and the Australian Defence Force in Tongala. They had the privilege of having lunch with the veterans and showing their support for this important memorial service, honouring the fallen. We commend their dedication and participation in such a meaningful event.

2024 Prep students:

Our transition sessions for our 2024 Preps kicked off with great success last week. It was heartwarming to see our future students engage in various fine motor activities and showcase their dance moves. We look forward to welcoming them officially next year and watching them grow and thrive in our school community.

Campaspe T20 carnival:

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 boys and girls cricket teams who participated in the Campaspe T20 carnival in Echuca last week. They displayed excellent sportsmanship and returned with fantastic stories to share with our school community. We are proud of their efforts and commitment on the field.

Breakfast Program:

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our weekly breakfast community heroes, including Woolworths Mooroopna, Foodbank Victoria, Bakers Delight and St Vinnies Kyabram. Their unwavering support has played a pivotal role in making our weekly breakfast program a reality. Through their generosity, our students are able to kick-start their day with a nutritious meal, setting them up for success. We are truly grateful for their partnership in nurturing our students' well-being.

Mental Health in Primary Schools:

The Department of Education has engaged the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) to evaluate the Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) program as it expands across Victoria. This evaluation aims to assess the program's implementation and impact. We have been given the opportunity to participate in an online survey to contribute to this evaluation. The MHiPS statewide staff survey is a 15-minute online survey that can be completed by teachers, leadership, wellbeing, and education support staff. Your input will help shape the future of mental health support in our school community.

The survey is due on Wednesday, 20 December, and you can access it and the consent form by clicking here: https://redcap.link/mhips2023_sws

Celebrations from the week:

A big thank you to everyone who participated in the Jump Rope 4 Heart fundraiser. Your efforts in raising funds for this important cause are truly commendable. The money raised will support innovative heart research and programs that are making a difference in the lives of Australians.

Class Placement Information or Requests

As planning for 2024 is well and truly on its way, we invite our families to take the opportunity to inform us of any special factors which need to be taken into consideration when assigning your child to a particular class in 2024.

Information provided will be considered in the structuring of classes. This information will be passed onto classroom teachers when they are structuring classes for next year.

Teachers have a very good understanding of individual students needs and take this into account when planning class combinations. After consideration of all factors, it may or may not be possible for your request to be accommodated.

To communicate this information, you can visit the office and fill out a form detailing your information or contact Billy Barnes.

Please keep an eye out for upcoming Compass events where we will require consent for student participation. Also, a friendly reminder that we have a student free day on Monday 3 November, as our staff will be engaged in a professional practice day.

Once again, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to all our families for your ongoing support and collaboration. Together, we are making a positive difference in the lives of our students.
