Stage 2 News:

Stage 2 students have had a busy start to Term 4!  One of the main changes made since last term is working as a whole stage group, for all subjects with doors open between both classrooms.  In doing this, Stage 2 students have been able to work with a teacher in smaller groups based on similar abilities.

English

During English this term, our focus has been on characterisation and the journeys characters take us on.  We have enjoyed exploring Louise’s character from ‘Louise, The Adventures of a Chicken’ by Kate DiCamillo, and this week, we are busy exploring the characteristics of the characters from ‘Fox’ by Maragret Wild.

Reading Groups

The way we teach and learn during our reading group sessions also looks very different this term.  Across the stage, students have been placed into groups based on reading and comprehension levels.  In these sessions, students have been learning all about the ‘main idea’ of different texts.  We have been focusing on finding key vocabulary within texts that are relevant and important to the main idea.  Since changing the ways we teach and learn in reading group sessions, teachers have noticed a growth in students' understanding of texts and their inferential skills.

Maths

In our Maths lessons over the past couple of weeks, Stage 2 have been looking at chance and data.  Students conducted a chance experiment where they played a series of paper, scissors & rock games against a component. They recorded their outcomes which was then used as data.  Last week, students took this collection of data and created a series of column graphs.

Drama

Stage 2 are so enthusiastic about drama this term!  Students have been practicing how to express their voices when portraying different exploring characters.  They are creating their own short play in small groups with the theme “explorers”, and will perform their plays at the end of term.

Gymnastics

Stage 2 students have thoroughly enjoyed their time at the Armidale Gymnastics Centre on Wednesdays. They have been working hard on their gymnastics skills, and having a ton of fun!

Swimming

Stage 2 had a great time at their first swimming session!  They will continue to attend their swimming sessions on Thursdays in weeks 4, 5, and 6.

Keep up the amazing work Stage 2!  You are fabulous!
