Italian at St Kevin’s

Here at St Kevin’s we are proud to have introduced the Italian TCL program this year. Studies show that it is really important that language being learnt is frequently repeated and recycled throughout the day. Regularly revising the language from the previous units will increase student retention of language. In your classroom and across the school, look for opportunities to:

  • Recycle
  • Revise
  • Repeat
  • Reinforce

Each year level classroom teacher continues to revise the Italian language in their classroom throughout the week, 10 minutes on the days when the language assistant isn’t visiting the classroom and 20 minutes twice a week with the language assistant. Each classroom teacher has their time of the day to review the language and their own style of revision in order to support the children.

Here is are some of the vocabulary that is taught at St Kevin’s:

  • Ti piace giocare fuori? (Do you like to play outside?)
  • No, non mi piace giocare fuori. Mi piace giocare dentro. (No, I don’t like to play outside. I like to play inside.)
  • Non mi piace fare sport perche’ e’ difficile. (I don’t like to do sports because it’s difficult.).

Children from Prep to Year 6 are showing great progress in their Italian learning. Here are pictures of Prep, Year 3 and Year 4 in their Italian lessons conducted by our language assistant Francesca.
