The value for this term is…COMPASSION.

COMPASSION

How can we be compassionate towards others?

The Oxford Dictionary defines compassion as  ‘caring about others, treating them with kindness, and feeling a strong desire to help people in need. Compassion is empathy in action.’

For a six year old, compassion might look like giving a hug, making a card, or saying something kind to help a friend or family member who is feeling sad or upset.

For a ten year old, compassion  might look like that feeling in your heart for others; understanding and caring about the feelings of others; saying kind words, understanding what others need or want; and wanting to do something that might help someone else.

Moving forward, how might you show compassion?

The month of November

Last week we entered the month of November. The eleventh month of the year. November is traditionally a time in which the Catholic Church remembers those who have died. It is related to the fact that the end of November is the end of the Liturgical Year with a new year starting the First Sunday of Advent – the four-week period of preparation before Christmas.

So as we prepare to welcome the season of Advent let us join together as a faith filled community to pray:

Lord let us show compassion to those that are hurting,

to those that are hungry,

to those that are cold and to those that are frightened.

Open our ears so we can hear their cries and allow us to give with our whole heart and not expect anything in return.

Here is a simple, yet powerful image, of what we can give everyday as we approach the season of Advent.

All Saints Day

Last Wednesday we celebrated the feast of  All Saints Day - A day of obligation.

As a school community we attended mass led by Father Charles Balnaves.  The children were reverent and reflective during the service.

Every blessing to you and your family,
