Year Advisers Report

Years 7, 9 & 11

Year 7 have had a very strong start to Term 4. They have worked extremely hard in ensuring the Year 7 Key actions have vastly improved across the year group:

  • Empathy,
  • Teamwork,
  • Resilience,
  • Responsibility and
  • Gratitude.

Term 3 has started with Year 7 taking a big step moving forward with their maturity levels. I could not be prouder of all of their efforts in ensuring that we have a successful team environment within our cohort, making Henry Kendall an enjoyable and safe place for all students to come to.

In regard to our weekly Friday morning year assemblies, we often begin by addressing our five key action areas and whether we have addressed each one during the past week. As of Week 3 Term 4, we had successfully addressed each one for five weeks running! This is a testament to the increased maturity levels within the cohort and a focus towards building our team environment.

I couldn’t be prouder of Year 7’s achievements that have begun Term 4 and I encourage all students to continue to focus on their learning and behaviour working towards a well-earned break at the conclusion of this term.

Matthew Hoole

Year 7 Adviser

Welcome back to our final term for 2023! We hope you all enjoyed a relaxing break over the holidays.

This term we kicked off with lots of Bronze and Silver Awards. Congratulations to all those students who are receiving Sentral points for their amazing achievements around the school and for their work in the classroom. Bronze is awarded at 50 points and Silver at 100 points so this means that so many of you are doing an amazing job.

Congratulations to the students who graduated from the Raise Mentoring program this term. We are so proud of each and every one of you!

Week 4 also marked the kick off of the STAR Program where our amazing mentors introduced our future Year 7 students to Henry Kendall High School. Thank you to those who volunteered to help.

Only a couple of months to go - let’s make them great!

Year 9 Adviser

The beginning of this term marked a significant milestone for the Class of 2024: the start of Year 12! It's hard to believe how fast time has flown by, but it's now time for students to consolidate and implement healthy habits and strategies to support their academics and well-being over the next three terms as they officially begin their HSC journey.

On the first Friday back, approximately 30 students attended the SafeTalk workshop, presented by LifeLine, which provides vital mental health first aid training to keep individuals at risk of suicide safe. The two presenters were highly experienced and raved about how brilliant our students were, with one even reaching out the following week to tell us that they were the best group they've ever had. Throughout the three hours of the confronting content, the students were mature, empathetic, kind, and respectful - we couldn't be prouder.

In the second week, all students participated in the Year 11 into Year 12 interviews. Students dressed professionally, brought their resumes, and had a one-on-one interview with a staff member to discuss their Year 11 experiences, goals for Year 12 and beyond, and course pattern changes. Once again, the year group conducted themselves exceptionally well.

In Week 3, the HSC Information Night was held to outline important policies, received their assessment schedule booklets and healthy mental health habits for the students. The turnout was great, and parents had the opportunity to meet the staff, putting faces to names.

Students and families of Year 12 are reminded about the Year 12 Life Ready Camp that is happening in Week 10 this term (Wednesday 13 to Friday 15 December). Life Ready is a mandatory 25-hour course designed to prepare and support senior students as they encounter situations related to health and safety as they become more independent and gain more responsibilities. It focuses on offering opportunities for students to build the functional knowledge and skills for life post school. A reminder to all families that final payment and permission notes are due by Friday 10 November 2023 to ensure that all bookings can be finalised.

Upcoming events:

  • Presentation Night: Tuesday 12 December
  • Camp (Great Aussie Bush Camp- Tea Gardens): Wednesday 13 December - 15 December

I would like to express my congratulations to Year 12 for their excellent conduct throughout all the events and for starting their final year of school on such a positive note! I encourage Year 12 to continue to work hard and remember to try your best and be kind to yourself and others.

“Self-belief is the secret to success”.
