Deputy Principal's Report
Years 7, 9, 11
As we enter our final 2023 reporting period, we can reflect on what a busy time we have all had this year.
Year 7 have been working steadily and have really become a big part of the community, in particular their ability to work together and support each other has been commendable (except a little too much and too competitive on the oval).
Year 9 continues to be a thoughtful group of individuals who are wonderful friends who respect their learning environments. They now have all received their electives choices of 2024 and Hospitality has continued to be the golden ticket most are aspiring to join. Students are still encouraged to place their names on reserve lists if they want to be considered if places change.
Year 11 have now commenced their HSC subjects and they too have been working hard and we wish them the very best with their first assessment tasks and units of study. We are all looking forward to spending lots of time together on Camp in the coming weeks.
Selected Year 8 students have completed the TIMMS International assessment cycle (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study). All students worked hard on their tests and were a credit to our school both regarding their behaviour and aptitude. Henry Kendall High School had a participation rate of 98% which is an outstanding result. The results of the TIMMS tests makes comparisons between Australian results and other countries as well as looking at differences between males and females, socioeconomic backgrounds, and past performance. The information is used to evaluate progress towards educational goals for Young Australians and the National Education Agreement outcome, that Australian students excel by international standards.
On Wednesday 8 November 2023 selected students from the Year 10 Leadership Team attended the Youth Leadership Forum led by the Liesl Tesch MP. The students will focus on the question: What is leadership? Our team will be looking at "How to be an Advocate?"
The Henry Kendall Team included:
Sydney Andrews, Lily Arendse, Zane Austen-Young, Ethan Hull, Pavani Pathak and Aaron Peachy.
The team had a great time and learnt lots about the importance of good leadership.
