New School Finance System

From Tuesday 17 October our school will start the transition to a new school finance system - School Bytes. As part of this transition, we will not be able to accept electronic payments (online and EFTPOS) from Tuesday 17 October for approximately one week. Cash payments will still be accepted.

For those families who would like to pay for the Footsteps Program (years 5 & 6), and the Epping Music Festival rehearsal bus (Concert Band and Choir) we will advise when electronic payment methods are again operational. Please continue to return your permission notes during this time.

Big Mob Day

It was a great pleasure to accompany Annabelle C (5J) and Chloe H (4B) to the 2023 Big Mob Day on Monday, 18 September. (T3, W10)

After an Acknowledgement of Country Ceremony, the children participated in 3 main activities. Tool making, weaving and a bush walk and site visit. Each of these activities was very interesting and engaging. The students rubbed stones to sharpen them and then learnt how to make a stone axe. During the site visit the students traced the large outline of a whale carved into rock. Our last activity of the day was a quiet afternoon weaving. The children were shown examples of many different types of woven baskets and bags and decorations and then they were each able to weave a bracelet.

Despite the heat we had a wonderful day. All the students, from all schools, were very engaged and had a wonderful time interacting with each other. They also shared a lot of knowledge with each other and a vote at the end of the day was to definitely hold another Big Mob Day in 2024.

On Monday the 18th September 2023, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island students from different schools around Carlingford were invited to join the Big Mob Day at Muogamarra Nature Reserve in Northern Sydney, which is an aboriginal cultural site.  Mrs Vasilla came with Chloe and I to join in on the day.

It was really interesting, they taught us lots of things about the Aboriginal culture and the country.

They showed us how to make stone tools using rocks and leaves and how to weave bracelets out of dried plant reeds.

Later on we went on a bushwalk, we saw some Aboriginal artworks. One was a carving of a whale, it was carved into a rock.  We also were shown plants that were used to make food, medicine and other items.

At the end of the day we all sat down and the aboriginal teachers thanked us for coming and gave us a boomerang as a memory.

It was lots of fun and I hope to attend next years Big Mob Day Out!!!

Annabelle C 5J

On Monday the 18th September, we went to Muogamarra Nature Reserve for an Indigenous education excursion.  I had a BLAST learning so much about this part of my culture and the way life was back in the past in Australia.  I found it SO, SO interesting (even though it was scorching HOT!)

I got to make tools from nature, go on a STUNNING bush walk to see an ancient whale rock carving, learn about bush tucker, bush medicine and even weave a bracelet.

Thank you to all the teachers that helped organise this day for us.  I really hope that I can do it again next year!!!
