CHICKEN UPDATE

We are keenly waiting and hoping like mad that we get some chickens hatching this time next week! We were so lucky to have our resident hatching expert Beth Diviny (she does this at home all the time!) visit our class to guide us with our egg candling this week. This is where we place a bright light right up next to the shell to be able to see if anything is growing inside. A bit like when you shine something really close to your finger or hand and it looks reddish and slightly transparent. We are fairly confident that at least 6 eggs had a visible dark area that is hopefully a developing embryo. Time will tell!

Our Scholastic Book Fair concluded last Wednesday, and I’m thrilled to announce that we sold $4,200 worth of books and novelty items for which we received 35% commission. With the students help I have selected $1,470 worth of FREE books. Thank you for your support of this event. It has generated lots of excitement in the library with children reserving books from our new collection.  All of the donated books have gone home to the families concerned for their first borrowing. The remainder of the books will be available to the students as they are processed.
