Northern Highway - Unmanned Crossing
Dear Families / Staff,
I wish to clarify a report you may have seen regarding the Northern Highway school crossing (not Murray Valley Highway as has been stated).
Regrettably, we had to suspend services this week at the school crossing while we worked with VicPol and the State Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) to resolve an ongoing safety issue which has escalated.
Council takes the safety of its staff and that of the community extremely seriously. We are currently not staffing the crossing due to increasing continuing physical threats of violence to our two dedicated crossing staff.
However, we are working with Vic Police and DTP (as this road is a State Government road) to discuss future options for the crossing.
The Victorian State Government funded council to deliver this school crossing service, but it should never be at the expense of staff or the community.
We had 2 of our council officers at the crossing yesterday, doing a risk assessment during school times, and police are patrolling the area.
We will advise when we have arranged a suitable solution.

Art Initiative
Let's get Arty! St Mary's is celebrating the wonderful artists in our school and would like to encourage students to get arty by creating an art piece inspired by the monthly theme. Check out the flyer for the upcoming themes this semester and bring your pieces to the Art Teachers before the end of each month for judging! Good Luck!
