Colouring Competition
On Monday 20th May, we launched a colouring competition to raise awareness for World Bee Day. A reminder that entries close THIS FRIDAY 7th June. Please bring your completed sheets to Room 14 (Mrs Borg’s classroom). There are prizes to be won. We can’t wait to see lots of the BEE-autiful entries.
Glass Jars
We are currently seeking glass jars for activities in Sustainability and Biodiversity. Any clean glass jars, preferably with the label removed, (with or without the lid) that you would like to donate, would be greatly appreciated. Please drop them to the Discovery Kitchen on Level 2.
World Environment Day
Wednesday 5th June is World Environment Day. This year’s campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.” To acknowledge this, the Year 3 and 4 students will be planting over 60 plants in the new garden beds on Level 2. This will take place this Thursday 6th and Friday 7th June. Students are welcome to bring their gardening gloves and gumboots to their regular Sustainability and Biodiversity session. If there are any parent, grandparent or family volunteers who would like to assist in this initiative, please email kara.jackson@education.vic.gov.au. All volunteers must have a current Working with Children Check.
Container Deposit Scheme (CDS)
We have begun collecting bottles and cans for the CDS recycling initiative. Thank you to those families who have already jumped onboard and dropped off eligible bottles and containers to the front office collection bin. Every item we collect, will earn our school 10c, which will go towards purchasing more plants for our gardens. Should you wish to self-deposit at a local refund point instead, please download the CDS Vic North app, create an account, click donation and search Eltham East Primary School. All funds will be transferred directly to the school account.
Paint Donations
This term, our Year 3 and 4 students are underway with planning the installation of 8 new pollinator houses for the school gardens, as part of their ‘Busy Bees’ unit. Part of the process sees students design and paint the outside of the structure. We would be grateful for any donations of EXTERIOR paints or clear stains, that you may have around your home. We are happy to take partially used cans that you may no longer need. In particular, black paint would be most useful. If you think you might be able to assist, please reach out to kara.jackson@education.vic.gov.au for further information. Thank you!
We accept advertisements to be included in our newsletter from most areas of private industry, however it should be noted that Eltham East’s School Council does not endorse any product or service advertised.
