Message from the Principal

Dear parents, carers and friends of EEPS,

My role is incredibly rewarding but it can be incredibly complex, so it is always enjoyable to be able to do small tasks with impact. Last week, I accidentally ended up as the crossing supervisor for the morning rush on Grove Street. Whilst it wasn’t the first time this has happened, it was wonderful to have so many positive and cheerful chats and ‘good mornings’ with many students, parents, grandparents and dogs! What a lovely way to start the school day.

Getting the Balance Right

I have written before in the newsletter about the EEPS philosophy of ‘getting the balance right’ especially the focus on different extra co-curricular activities that supplement the rich classroom learning experiences. We do try hard to balance sporting opportunities with musical, cultural and artistic opportunities.

Therefore, it was an absolute privilege to accompany the Year 2 and 3 students to the Victorian Arts Centre to watch the stage show, ‘The Peasant Prince’ performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. There are many moments in the school journey which transcend the ‘day to day’ when students can connect on a strong emotional level. It is my hope that our music excursion on Friday was one of those moments.

Prep Parent Helpers

The preps have only recently started having parent helpers in the classrooms. I would like to thank our prep parents, and in particular our new EEPS parents, for offering to help. It is always the school’s hope that the experience is just as rewarding for you as it is for the students. Thank you.

Attitudes to School Survey

Over the next 2 weeks the Year 4-6 students will be asked to participate in the 2024 Attitudes to School Survey. This is an annual survey that helps not only the Department identify trends and patterns, but is also used by the school as part of the continuous improvement cycle. The classroom teachers will be talking through the different sections with the students before completing the survey and, of course, will be there to offer support as required.

Cross Country

Congratulations to our EEPS cross country team competing in the Division event held last Thursday. Our students should be very proud of themselves. A special mention to Piper who came first in her division and Will who came 5th. Top job everyone!

Prep Enrolments

The 2025 prep enrolment process is now in full swing. If you have a sibling enrolment then please visit the office and speak to Julianne about the process. If you have a friend or neighbour who is intending to enrol at our great school then please let them know that there is no time like the present!

Litter - Thank You

Our student Sustainability Leaders have been busy creating ‘Emu Bob’ posters as a reminder to classes when it is their turn to participate. Thank you to the school community for your support with litter reduction, as there has been an improvement since I wrote two weeks ago.

School Review Feedback

As we wrapped up the 2024 school review last week, the entire school community should be extremely proud of the efforts over the last four years together. The reviewer and panel really wanted me to pass on their congratulations to us all. I am very proud to lead our school community - thank you for making it this way. Over the next term I will communicate the details of the new School Strategic Plan, which will be a continuation of the path we have been moving along combining ‘learning and wellbeing’.

I hope everyone enjoys the King’s Birthday long weekend. Please don’t forget, Year 3-6 students and families, to consent to the House Athletics Compass event for next Thursday 13th June.
